    • A method and apparatus for assigning automatic repeat request (ARQ)/hybrid-automatic repeat request (H-ARQ) processes in a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) to support enhanced uplink (EU) data transmissions. After parameters associated with the ARQ/H-ARQ processes are configured, the WTRU assigns an ARQ/H-ARQ process for selected data. After transmitting the data, the WTRU determines whether feedback information for the data has been received. The WTRU releases the ARQ/H-ARQ process if an acknowledgement (ACK) message has been received, and retransmits the data if a non-acknowledgement (NACK) message or no feedback information has been received in a predetermined time period while incrementing a transmission counter in the WTRU. When an ARQ/H-ARQ transmission limit has been reached, the WTRU may discard the data or reinitiate the transmission. An ARQ/H-ARQ process assigned for transmission of lower priority data may be preempted for transmission of higher priority data when there is no available ARQ/H-ARQ process.

    • A method and apparatus for identifying and reporting a non-operational enhanced uplink (EU) signaling channel. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) sends a channel allocation request for an enhanced dedicated channel (E-DCH) to a Node-B through an uplink (UL) EU signaling channel. In response to the request, the Node-B sends channel allocation information to the WTRU through one or more downlink (DL) EU signaling channels. If the WTRU does not receive the channel allocation information before a predetermined time period established by a request response timer expires, the WTRU reports a non-operational EU signaling channel to a radio network controller (RNC) via the Node-B. The Node-B reports a non-operational EU signaling channel when the Node-B does not receive E-DCH data transmissions after sending the channel allocation information, or receives subsequent E-DCH data transmissions which are inconsistent with the channel allocation information.

    • A method and apparatus for processing data blocks during soft handover. The apparatus may be a wireless communication system including at least two enhanced uplink soft handover (EU-SHO) Node-Bs and a radio network controller (RNC). Each Node-B decodes a received data block and forwards the decoded data block to the RNC. If the RNC receives at least one copy of a successfully decoded data block, the RNC uses a re-ordering function entity to process the copy of the successfully decoded data block to support in-sequence delivery to higher protocol layers. If the RNC receives more than one copy of a successfully decoded data block, the RNC discards the extra successfully decoded data block copies. The RNC is either a serving-RNC (S-RNC) or a controlling-RNC (C-RNC). Each Node-B includes a medium access control (MAC) entity that handles enhanced uplink dedicated channel (EU-DCH) functionalities.

An H-ARQ memory in the receiving node is reserved for a plurality of H-ARQ processes. A transmitting node dynamically configures the H-ARQ memory in the receiving node for each H-ARQ transmission so that the memory requirement for a plurality of H-ARQ processes exceeds the H-ARQ memory capacity. If there is insufficient H-ARQ memory available to support H-ARQ transmissions, only a subset of the plurality of H-ARQ processes may be activated at a time.     • Urgent data is scheduled in a wireless communication system including at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) and at least one Node-B. The WTRU includes a re-ordering release timer. The Node-B includes a buffer, a lifespan (or maximum allowed delay) timer and a high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) scheduler. The HSDPA scheduler determines whether there is at least one protocol data unit (PDU) in the buffer whose lifespan (maximum allowed delay) timer or re-ordering release timer will expire if the PDU is not transmitted in a next N transmission timing interval (TTI), where N is a design parameter. If so, the PDU is treated as urgent data whereby a sequence of WTRUs, (i.e., users), scheduled to receive urgent data is arranged in an order of decreasing priority, and a more conservative modulation and coding scheme (MCS), multiple code transmission and a different redundancy reversion are considered for use.
