    • The present solution provides a method in a base station (110) for selecting one or more user equipments (120) to be scheduled for a transmission. After receiving (201) channel state information from the respective one or more user equipments (120), the base station (110) estimates (202) the throughput of the transmission of the respective one or more user equipments (120). The throughput is based on the received channel state information. The base station (110) further estimates (203) the consumption of throughput that is expected for transmitting scheduling information to each of the respective one or more user equipments (120). The base station then selects (204) the respective one or more user equipments (120) to be scheduled for transmission based on a criterion. The criterion is based on the estimated throughput and the estimated consumption of throughput that is expected for transmitting the scheduling information to the respective one or more user equipments (120).

    • An uplink signal-to-interference ratio for each of multiple mobile radio terminal connections supported in a cell in a cellular communications system is estimated. A signal-to-interference ratio error is determined for selected ones of the estimated uplink signal-to-interference ratios. One or more signal-to-interference ratio errors are identified that exceed a signal-to-interference ratio error threshold. An instability indicator associated with the cell is determined based on the one or more identified signal-to-interference ratio errors. A load control decision and/or a decision for scheduling one or more uplink mobile radio transmissions in the cell may then be made based on the instability indicator, e.g., to prevent a transmission power rush in the uplink in the cell and/or to efficiently use available resources for uplink transmissions.

    • In a radio access network (10) comprising a radio network controller node (26) and a base station node (28), a code tree has spreading codes which are allocatable between high speed downlink shared (HS-DSCH) channels and dedicated (DCH) channels. According to one aspect of the technology, use of the spreading codes of the code tree is monitored and an HS-DSCH channel is allocated a free spreading code which is non-adjacent to a spreading code already allocated to the HS-DSCH channels. In some example implementations, the free, non-adjacent spreading code is allocated so that more than one high speed channel user can use the spreading codes. In other example implementations, the free, non-adjacent spreading code is allocated so that one user uses the spreading codes by using more than one HS-SCCH channel. Preferably the non-adjacent spreading code is released from the HS-DSCH channel when the non- adjacent spreading code is needed for use by a DCH channel.

    • The present invention relates to a method and arrangement for triggering a Random Access Channel (RACH) procedure for requesting uplink resources on a random access channel to a radio base station (600) scheduler based on a change in terminal (700) buffer status as compared to a Buffer Status Report BSR stored in said terminal. In a first method step, the status of the present terminal buffer content, i.e. terminal buffer data, is compared with the status of said stored buffer status report BSR. A second method step involves initiating a RACH procedure for indicating a service request to said base station scheduler upon detecting a change of buffer status at said comparison. The service request includes an indicator of the status change as a trigger for said scheduler to assign uplink resources to said terminal.
