    • A wavelength meter for measuring the wavelength of an input light signal. The meter includes a beam splitter, a fixed mirror, and a moveable mirror, the beam splitter splits the input signal into a first input signal and a second input signal, the first and second input signals being reflected from the fixed and moveable mirrors, respectively, and being recombined by the beam splitter. The first reference light signal is reflected by the fixed mirror and the second reference light signal is reflected by the moving mirror, the beam splitter recombines the first and second reference light signals to form a combined reference light signal. The amplitude of the combined reference light signal is detected by a reference detector that generates a reference signal related to the amplitude of the combined reference light signal. The wavelength meter also includes a position circuit for generating a start signal indicating that the moveable mirror is at a first position relative to the fixed mirror and that the moveable mirror is moving in a first direction. A controller records a sequence of measurement signal values in response to the start signal and the reference signal.

    • A radar system is disclosed which includes a transmitter which produces a long coded radar pulse. The return of the long coded radar pulse is compressed by a long pulse compression filter to produce a short coded pulse and the short coded pulse is compressed by a short pulse compression filter to produce a return pulse for processing by an existing processor designed to process return coded pulses of a particular format. The long pulse transmitter can also transmit a short coded precursor pulse, to improve radar range coverage, along with the long coded pulse by the provision of a switching bypass device which routes the short coded pulse return signal around the long pulse compression filter.

    • The present invention provides a set of holding pattern entry algorithms used to define flight segments for entry into holding patterns. These geometries preferably describe the specific location and distance of various segments used in the holding pattern and holding pattern racetrack, with each segment defined as a curved or straight segment between endpoints. The algorithms also preferably include criteria used to determine entry extension, maximum initial turn angle, and minimum distance between a hold fix and an entry turn point. The geometry also preferably extends entry distance to avoid excessive iterative calculations. The algorithms are preferably utilized by a flight management system and method that determines segment sequencing during entry into holding patterns and the holding patterns themselves. The flight management system and method monitors the aircraft's progress along the active segment of the flight plan to determine what is the appropriate next segment in the algorithm and when to switch control from the active segment to the next segment.
