    • The invention relates to a method for automatically synchronizing a number of paper feeding channels of an inserting system involving the following steps: a) inspecting the sheets provided for output in one of the channels by comparing their group sequence number and their sheet sequence number with predetermined reference values; b) outputting the inspected sheets from this channel if their group sequence number and sheet sequence number correspond with the set reference values; c) inspecting the additional sheets provided for output in one or more additional channels if the group sequence number or the sheet sequence number of a previously inspected sheet does not correspond with the set reference values; d) outputting the sheets from the additional channels if their group sequence number and sheet sequence number correspond with the set reference values, and; e) identifying a group as a defective group and outputting the sheet with the smallest group sequence number and with the smallest sheet sequence number if none of the inspected sheets have the set reference group sequence number and reference sheet sequence number.

    • A freight-loading system in a cargo hold of an aircraft is provided that offers enhanced operating safety. The freight-loading system comprises a plurality of power drive units (PDUs), which can be actuated by control signals in such a way that items of freight can be maneuvered into or out of the cargo hold as well as within it. The power drive units (PDUs) are connected by control leads to control panels for actuation by personnel. A control maintenance computer (CMC) is provided and connected to the power drive units (PDUs) and the control panels, and is so designed that status information from the power drive units (PDUs) and the control panels can be read out, and that the power drive units (PDUs) and/or the control panels are controllable by the control maintenance computer (CMC).

    • A drive roller unit for driving articles on a conveyor track includes a drive roller which can be driven in rotation by an electric motor by way of a planetary transmission. The drive roller is mounted rotatably on a guide body which permits the roller to be movable relative to a base of the unit between a lower rest position and an upper drive position in which it is in engagement with the underside of the article to be driven. An internal gear ring which is fixedly connected to the drive roller is in the form of a crown wheel of the planetary transmission. A planet wheel of the planetary transmission meshes on the one hand with the internal gear ring and on the other hand with a sun wheel of the planetary transmission. The sun wheel is driven by the electric motor while the planet carrier of the planet wheel is fixedly connected to the guide body.

    • A drive roller unit for driving an article on a conveyor track comprises first and second drive rollers which can be driven in rotation by an electric motor by way of a transmission. The drive rollers are arranged with their axes of rotation in concentric side-by-side relationship and are each driven by the electric motor by way of a respective transmission wheel. The electric motor drives the first transmission wheel while the second transmission wheel is coupled to the first transmission wheel by means of a slipping clutch whose clutch torque is such that the clutch does not slip and the drive rollers thus rotate in the same direction as long as the driven article can move substantially unbraked or unimpeded beyond the drive roller unit, the clutch however slipping if the article is unable to move freely and thus applies a braking force to the second roller, whereby the unit is turned about a vertical axis to re-orient the article for further free movement thereof in a fresh direction.
