    • An elevator may include an elevator car, hoisting ropes, traction sheave, and compensating device. The hoisting ropes may support the elevator car. The traction sheave may move the elevator car using the hoisting ropes. The elevator may include rope portions of the hoisting ropes going upwards and downwards from the elevator car. A rope portion going from the traction sheave in a direction of the rope portions going upwards from the elevator car may be under a first rope tension. A rope portion going from the traction sheave in a direction of the rope portions going downwards from the elevator car may be under a second rope tension. The compensating device may do one or more of the following: equalize rope tension, compensate the rope tension, equalize rope elongation, compensate the rope elongation, and render a ratio of the first rope tension to the second rope tension substantially constant.

A moving transport surface comprises a plurality of mutually parallel endless belt loops, each of the belt loops passing over two belt pulleys located on different shafts.

    • The present invention relates to a method of changing the direction of motion of a pallet at an end of a transport conveyor while maintaining the pallet at a substantially constant attitude. The method comprises conveying pallets in a passenger transport direction and at a first level, conveying pallets in a return direction and at a second, different level, positively guiding a trailing end of a first pallet with respect to its direction of motion with a supporting element, and rotating the supporting element with a second pallet located immediately behind the first pallet with respect to the direction of motion, thereby moving the trailing end of the first pallet from one of the first level and the second level to the other of the first level and the second level and changing the direction of motion of the first pallet.

    • A travelator and method for transporting passengers on a travelator. The travelator includes a plurality of successive conveyors arranged to form an acceleration section, a constant speed section including at least one conveyor having a constant transport speed, and a deceleration section. The acceleration section includes successive conveyors having constant speeds stepwise increasing in the transport direction for accelerating a passenger. The deceleration section includes successive conveyors having constant speeds stepwise decreasing in the transport direction for decelerating the passenger. The speeds of the conveyors in the acceleration section and the deceleration section are arranged such that the average acceleration experienced by the passenger over the entire length of the acceleration and deceleration sections is constant. Adjacent successive conveyors in the acceleration and deceleration sections include a common diverting element having a speed change point at which the speeds of the adjacent successive conveyors are different in the transport direction.
