    • A system and computer-implemented method for generating temporal footprints to identify tasks is provided. One or more events performed by a user during execution of a task is recorded. Patterns including sequences of two or more of the events are identified. Each pattern occurs at a plurality of occurrences. A determination of whether each pattern is significant is made. A temporal distance between the events in each pattern occurrence for each pattern is identified. A pattern value is determined for each pattern based on a number of occurrences and the associated temporal distance. The pattern value is applied to a significance level. At least one of the patterns is determined to be significant when the pattern value satisfies the significance level. A temporal footprint is generated for the executed task and includes the significant patterns.

    • One embodiment provides a system for comparing documents based on different document-similarity calculation methods using adaptive weighting. During operation, the system receives at least two document-similarity values associated with two documents, wherein the document-similarity values are calculated by different document-similarity calculation methods. The system then determines the weight of a respective document-similarity calculation method for each of the two documents, as well as a weight-combination function for calculating a combined weight of the respective document-similarity calculation method associated with the two documents. Next, the system generates a combined similarity value based on the document-similarity values and the weight-combination function.

    • A relationship visualization system displays contextual information for a relationship between two entities of a document management system, such as for a user and a document. The system can receive a request for a relationship visualization from a user, such that the request indicates the user and a document. Then, the system determines, from a multipartite graph, a set of relationship paths coupling entity nodes corresponding to the user and the document. A relationship path can include one or more entity nodes indicating contextual information for the relationship between the user and the document. Then, the system selects a first group of entity nodes from the set of relationship paths to represent the relationship between the user and the document. The system then provides a relationship visualization that displays contextual information from the first group of entity nodes to illustrate the relationship between the user and the document.
