    • A treatment of atherosclerosis by the application of external electromagnetic energy capable of the generation of heat and biophysical alterations in intracellular particles and particles within atherosclerotic plaques to induce resolution of the atherosclerotic plaques. This process allows for the selective treatment of the atherosclerotic plaque without damaging the normal blood vessel by the compartmentalized alteration of biophysical properties within the atherosclerotic lesion. The process comprises introducing minute particles into the interior of atherosclerotic plaques and the cells involved in the lesion. These particles being injected intravenously while suspended in an appropriate solution are of a size generally having a diameter of approximately 1 micron or less and one of a material with properties such as ferromagnetic, paramagnetic or diamagnetic so as to be inductively heated when subjected to a high frequency alternating electromagnetic field. Introducing the particles as described the patient is thereafter subjected to an alternating electromagnetic field to inductively heat the particles sufficiently to raise the temperature of the atherosclerotic lesion and destroy the atherosclerotic lesion without harming the normal artery or intima.

    • A process for the treatment of atherosclerotic lesions by the application of external electromagnetic energy capable of achieving biophysical alterations in the intracellular structure of the lesions, including stimulation of intracellular production of interferon. The process accomplishes these biophysical alterations by tuning an external electromagnetic energy to the resonant energy absorption frequencies of the intracellular structure of the lesions and then exposing the subject to this tuned electromagnetic energy field. Alternatively, the field can be tuned to the frequency which has been calculated to be closest to the resonant frequency of the lesions and furtherest from the resonant frequency of the normal vascular cells. The process may be further enhanced by the intracellular absorption of selected materials designed to alter the magnetic susceptibility and therefore the resonant energy absorption frequency of the intracellular structure.

    • A treatment of cancer by the application of chemical reactions intracellularly capable of the intracellular generation of heat so as to induce selective thermal death of cancer cells in living tissue. Metabolizable minute particles of a size less than one micron are intravenously injected into the patient and absorbed by the cancer cells. The oxygen level of the patient's blood is then increased. The rate of intracellular chemical reaction in the cancer cells due at least in part to the intracellular presence of these minute particles is thereby increased and intracellular heat generated. The oxygen level is increased until the intracellular temperature has increased at least 8.0 degrees Centigrade but not more than 9.5 degrees Centigrade thereby selectively killing the cancer cells without damaging the normal cells.

    • A cell extender for use in digital cellular telephone systems comprises a control module, and scanning module, and several traffic modules. The control module bidirectionally repeats the donor cell site control channels. Voice modules therein bidirectionally repeat selected donor traffic channels for mobiles. The voice module amplifies and translates the Reverse Digital Traffic Channel RDTC (transmitted by the mobile). The voice module reframes the Forward Digital Traffic Channel, and advances its timing such that RDTC signals transmitted by the mobile and repeated by the cell extender arrive at the donor with the correct timing alignment. The timing advance compensates for RF path propagation delay between the donor and the cell extender, and for any additional delay through the cell extender. If the voice module determines that the mobile is leaving the cell extender coverage area, it sends a hand-off message returning the mobile to the assigned donor traffic channel.

    • A system and a method for extending coverage of a cell site in a cellular radio telephone system include a plurality of repeaters or boosters which are spaced through the region where increased coverage is desired. A first booster is in radio communication with the transceiver for the cell site. The remaining boosters are linked together, by radio transmissions, in a series configuration with only one of those linked to the first booster. A movable transceiver operating in the extended area of coverage is in radio communication with the closest booster unit and, via the serial chain of boosters in communication with the controlling cell site. As the movable unit moves along the extended area of coverage from one booster area to another, it is automatically picked up by the approaching booster and dropped by the receding booster while continuing to be in communication ultimately with the cell site via the series coupled booster chain.
