    • Indicating when the cover for a computer chassis has been opened is disclosed. A computer of an embodiment of the invention includes a chassis and a basic input/output system (BIOS), or another type of firmware. The chassis has an openable cover, and circuitry indicating when the openable cover has been opened. The BIOS has a non-volatile memory in which a flag is set when the circuitry indicates that the openable cover has been opened. The computer may further include always-on circuitry, such as time-of-day and real-time clock circuitry, to which the circuitry indicating when the openable cover has been opened is electrically connected. The computer may also include one or more encryption and/or signing modules that encrypt and/or sign data according to one or more keys. The keys are rendered invalid when the cover of the chassis has been opened.

    • A group-browsing system for a plurality of clients each including a shared web browser when browsing non-secure parts of a web site. A server is linked to the shared web browser of each client and is configured to monitor the transmission of the web site URL request from the shared web browser of one client of the group and to direct the request to the shared web browser of other clients in the group. A gatekeeper module is configured to first mask the identity of each client's computer on the shared browser. This prevents the web site from retrieving any client's actual identifier. Second, the gatekeeper is also configured to create a same temporary identifier for each client when any client logs on to the web site so that the same web page is displayed for all the clients in the group. When browsing secure parts of a web site, a non-shared web browser is executed instead of using the shared web browser to avoid sharing sensitive or personal information.

    • A system and method for microseismic fracture mapping using seismic source timing measurements for velocity calibration is disclosed. The system may include a seismic source coupled to a wireline and a seismic source trigger, a sensor capable of detecting a first signal from the seismic source trigger, a transmitter coupled to the sensor, capable of transmitting a time value associated with the first signal, a receiver capable of detecting an event generated by the seismic source; and an analyzer capable of calculating a microseismic velocity of the event. In one embodiment, a first signal is transmitted through a wireline to trigger a seismic source. The first signal is detected, and a first time value associated with the first signal is transmitted. An event associated with the seismic source is detected and a second signal associated with the event is transmitted to an analyzer. A microseismic velocity is calibrated based on the time difference between the first time value and a second time value associated with the second signal.

    • A combination keyboard and keyboard/mouse controller system is capable of use with different types of personal computers, using either a keyboard input alone or a keyboard/mouse combination. The controller is configured with a hardware transceiver in it, and includes interconnections between an accumulator and a microsequencer portion and a transceiver for effecting the transfer of data to and from the computer and the keyboard or keyboard/mouse combination. The configuration of the controller circuitry is such that logic gates and multiplex transmission gates are employed between various ones of the input terminals to which signals are applied, and output terminals to which signals are provided. These gates interconnect at least some of these terminals in different combinations in different modes of operation of the controller system, depending upon whether a computer uses a keyboard alone as a data input device or is operated with a combination of a keyboard and mouse. The switching from one of these modes of operation to the other is effected by means of a binary control signal applied on a common terminal to the controller circuit.
