In one embodiment, fingerprint data supplied from two or more sources is aggregated. The aggregated fingerprint data is used to define a set of audio signals. An audio signal from the set of audio signals is selected based on its probability of matching the fingerprint data. Digital watermarks can also be similarly used to define a set of audio signals.

One arrangement enables a content creator to select software with which that creator's content should be rendered—assuring continuity between artistic intention and delivery. Another utilizes a device camera to identify nearby subjects, and take actions based thereon. Others rely on near field chip (RFID) identification of objects, or on identification of audio streams (e.g., music, voice). Some technologies concern improvements to the user interfaces associated with such devices. Others involve use of these devices in connection with shopping, text entry, sign language interpretation, and vision-based discovery. Still other improvements are architectural in nature, e.g., relating to evidence-based state machines, and blackboard systems. Yet other technologies concern use of linked data in portable devices—some of which exploit GPU capabilities. Still other technologies concern computational photography. One claim recites a method including: obtaining a first fingerprint comprising a first reduced-bit representation of an item of content; obtaining a second fingerprint comprising a second, different reduced-bit representation of the item of content; and identifying, from a database, information associated with the item of content utilizing both the first fingerprint and the second fingerprint. Another claim recites a method including: obtaining at least one fingerprint from a mobile user device; obtaining geographical information associated with the mobile user device; determining a set of fingerprints based on the geographical information; and determining one or more fingerprints from the set of fingerprints based on the at least one fingerprint. Of course other combinations are provided and claimed as well.
