    • A device for recording information writes and reads marks and spaces which each have a nominal run length. The power of a radiation source is controlled for writing the marks and spaces in accordance with a power pattern in dependence on the run length. The power pattern for a mark of a long run length comprises at least three pulses having a write power (65), at least one first intermediate period between the pulses having a bias power (66), and at least one second intermediate period between the pulses having a reduced bias power (70), the at least one second intermediate period including the intermediate period before the final pulse of the power pattern. Due to the reduced bias power, the preheat at the start of a next mark after a long mark and a space is reduced.

    • The present invention relates to an optical information carrier for recording information by means of an optical beam, said optical information carrier comprising a substrate layer (S), a recording layer (P) including a thermochromic material having temperature-dependent optical characteristics or a photochromic material having light dependent optical characteristics for selectively improving the sensitivity during recording and/or read-out, and a cover layer (C). To achieve an increase reflectivity the recording layer (P) at elevated temperature or high light intensity, respectively, and a very high transmission and low reflectivity at ambient temperature or low light intensity, respectively, it is proposed to use a thermochromic or photochromic material that has an imaginary part k of the complex refractive index ñ being larger than 0 at elevated temperature or high light intensity, respectively. The present invention relates also to a method of determining the thickness of a recording layer of such an optical information carrier and to a read-out device for reading data from such an optical information carrier.

    • The present invention relates to a recordable optical record carrier for recording information using a radiation beam having wavelength λ and incident on an entrance surface of the optical record carrier comprising, in this order: a protective layer facing the entrance surface; first recording stack (L0), said recording stack comprising a recording layer of an organic dye material and a groove structure; a transparent spacer layer sandwiched between the neighboring recording stacks; and a second recording stack (LN) comprising a recording layer, wherein the groove depth of the recording layer of the first recording stack (L0) is in a range from 0.241*λ/nS to 0.362*λ/nS, where nS is a refractive index of a material in a land between grooves on the groove structure. An increase in both reflection and transmission of at least the first recording stack (L0) can be obtained according to the present invention by decreasing the groove depth of the recording layer of at least the first recording stack (L0). A further improvement can be obtained by increasing the recording layer leveling.
