    • A content delivery network includes first and second sets of cache servers, a domain name server, and an anycast island controller. The first set of cache servers is hosted by a first autonomous system and the second set of cache servers is hosted by a second autonomous system. The cache servers are configured to respond to an anycast address for the content delivery network, to receive a request for content from a client system, and provide the content to the client system. The first and second autonomous systems are configured to balance the load across the first and second sets of cache servers, respectively. The domain name server is configured to receive a request from a requestor for a cache server address, and provide the anycast address to the requestor in response to the request. The anycast island controller is configured to receive load information from each of the cache servers, determine an amount of requests to transfer from the first autonomous system to the second autonomous system; send an instruction to the first autonomous system to transfer the amount of requests to the second autonomous system.

    • A method and apparatus for scheduling the transmission of data packets over a multihop wireless backhaul network in which delay guarantees through the network may be advantageously ensured. Illustratively, a novel packet scheduling scheme is provided which is advantageously based on an existing scheduling policy for wireline networks and for which a delay guarantee (based on the delay characteristics of the existing scheduling policy) can be advantageously ensured. In one embodiment, an even-odd link activation framework is defined for a given multihop wireless backhaul network, and an associated scheduling policy based on an arbitrary existing scheduling policy for wireline networks is derived and adopted. In such a case, the derived scheduling policy, when applied to the given multihop wireless backhaul network, advantageously ensures a worst-case delay guarantee of approximately twice that of the existing scheduling policy for wireline networks.

    • A system and methodology that can optimize practical performance by reducing broadcast latency and collisions in a multihop wireless network is provided. The system includes an optimization component that determines a schedule for transmitting and/or receiving messages at nodes in the network during one-to-all broadcasting, all-to-all broadcasting, and/or all-to-one collection. The schedule enables each node in wireless network to participate in broadcasting as soon as possible, such that, when a node transmits a message to its parent to deliver the message to a source node, the children of the node also receive the message and initiate broadcasting the message in their subtrees in parallel. Further, during data collection, the schedule for messages to be transmitted to a sink node is determined based in part on a priority associated with the message. Additionally, the generated schedule does not affect a set of theoretical bounds associated with a broadcast algorithm employed by the network.
