    • A method for halftoning an image, including receiving image data including a plurality of color separations and comparing image data for first, second, third, and fourth separations to first, second, third, and fourth halftone screens. The screens are characterized by first, second, third, and fourth pairs of frequency vectors, respectively. The fourth pair of frequency vectors is identical to one of the first, second, and third pairs of frequency vectors. Further, the first, second, third, and fourth screens have an associated fill-in sequence, where the fill-in sequence of the fourth screen is such that overlap between the separation corresponding to the fourth screen and the separation corresponding to the one of the first, second, and third screens to which the fourth screen has an identical pair of frequency vectors does not occur until a combined dot area coverage of the separations is greater than 100%.

    • A method of converting black to composite/process black in a digital color print engine. A lightness adjustment is employed for converting input image (O, O, O, Kin) to Ko and initial values of Co, Mo, Yo are set equal to Ko and then converted to C1, M1, Y1, K1 by GCR strategy. Values of Cout, Mout, Yout, Kout are determined by Gray Balance Adjustment for values of C1, M1, Y1, K1 and inputted to the color print engine. The user may disable the conversion to composite black and print black ink/tones if desired. The user may also input different parameters for Lightness Adjustment, Gray Component Replacement and Gray Balance Adjustment.

    • The presently disclosed embodiments are directed to methods and systems for improving the performance of an image processor color to color tile transformation by caching color tiles most recently calculated. A page of a print job is received. One or more color tiles based on colors found in a previous print job are pre-calculated and stored in a memory. A color present in the page is read. The color is compared to one or more pre-calculated color tiles. If the color does not match a pre-calculated color tile, a new color tile for the color is calculated, a pre-calculated color tile is removed from the memory, the new color tile is added to the memory, and the new color tile is used to print the page. If the color does match a pre-calculated color tile stored in the memory, the pre-calculated color tile is used to print the page.
