Thereafter, the normal travelling pattern controlled by the weft thread insertion program is resumed.

    • The filaments in a weft thread or yarn in a pneumatic loom are tangled and consolidated to prevent untangling of the weft thread when it is transported, after the tangling, through the weft insertion channel in a loom shed. For this purpose the leading end of the weft thread is temporarily stopped in a weft insertion nozzle pipe by a first air stream the so-called holding air stream (19) with a first pressure (P1) between two weaving cycles following each other for holding the weft thread stretched. At the same time a second air stream (20) having a higher pressure (P2) than the first pressure (P1) and a different flow direction than the first air stream (19) is applied to or along a leading end portion of the weft thread for tangling the filaments and thereby locking or consolidating the filaments in the weft thread. Each weft insertion nozzle pipe has a first port and a second port through which the first and second air streams are introduced into the weft insertion the nozzle pipe. The second port is positioned downstream of the first port and closer to a free exit end (15) of the respective weft insertion nozzle pipe but still spaced from the free exit end.

    • A weft thread pre-winder or pre-spooling device for an air jet loom includes a thread storage drum (6) made up of several drum segments (7) that are each adjustable in the radial direction so as to adjust the diameter and circumference of the thread storage drum. The diameter of the disk (10) is substantially matched to the adjusted diameter of the drum segments (7).

    • Different groups of warp threads are subject to different variations of warp thread tension during shed changes, especially when weaving a fabric having portions such as fabric edges with different weave binding patterns. To provide different warp thread tension compensation for the different thread groups, a cam-like first tensioning module is arranged protruding from the circumferential surface of the backrest along the entire operating width thereof. Second and third tensioning modules are arranged and engaged over the first tensioning module at particular selected axial locations on the backrest. While the second and third tensioning modules provide a constant deflection path distance for second and third warp thread groups guided thereover, the first tensioning module provides a varying deflection path distance for the first warp thread group guided thereover, depending on the oscillating rotational angular position of the backrest. The backrest oscillatingly rotates under a passive compensating spring tension and/or under a positive actuation mechanism coupled to the main loom shaft. The respective warp thread tension of each group of warp threads can be compensated differently or independently from the other groups. The arrangement can be easily reconfigured in a modular fashion to be adapted to the needs of weaving different product articles.

    • A weft thread monitor for an air weaving loom with air jets for inserting weft thread yarns of different qualities such as coarse, fine, thick or thin yarns into the loom shed, has an amplifier or comparator controlled in response to control signals which represent the different yarn qualities for providing a loom control signal which is substantially independent of these yarn qualities. The different quality yarns are pulled off from thread storage spools. The air jets of the main nozzles and of relay nozzles are controlled by an air jet insertion control forming part of a central processing unit. The weft thread monitor with its monitoring or sensor element or elements is arranged at the exit side of the air channel formed by profiled reed teeth of the air jet loom. The output of the sensor element is connected to the input of the amplifier or comparator. A uniform output signal from the amplifier or comparator is assured for all types of weft threads regardless of the yarn specific quality, by controlling the amplifier gain or the comparator threshold, for compensation in response to these yarn qualities. Thus, a very thin smooth yarn or a very thick, corase yarn will yield the same resulting output signal.
