    • A mixer for dental capsules has a fork-type capsule holder which includes a pair of rigid arms (1, 2) one of which is provided with a pin (10) that passes through an opening (11) provided in the other arm (1). A helical spring (13) disposed about the pin (10) creates a tilting moment about the capsule holding location which causes the pin (10) to be caught by edges forming the opening (11), thereby producing a self-locking action which is not released during the mixing movement. For inserting and removing a capsule (5) in the inoperative condition of the mixer, the fork may be readily opened by pulling a handle (16) provided on the one arm (2) against the relatively weak force of the spring (13).

    • A pressure vessel includes a body 10 and a cover 12. An O-ring 20 surroung the upper opening 11 of the vessel body 10 cooperates with a diaphragm 21 sealingly inserted in the cover 12. The diaphragm 21 extends beyond the O-ring 20 in the radial direction inside the cover 12. When the vessel is pressurized, a pressure difference acts on the diaphragm 21 to press an annular plate 23 driven by the diaphragm 21 against the O-ring 20, while the cover 12 is secured by a bayonet locking 24, 25 against being lifted off the vessel body. The pressure inside the vessel is thus used to produce the sealing force. In the unpressurized condition, the cover 12 may be easily placed on the vessel body 10 without effort, and rotation about a small angle is sufficient for securing the cover. In case the bayonet locking has not been completely closed, pressure applied to the vessel will lift the cover 12 by a certain amount, thereby automatically releasing the seal. As a result, no substantial pressure can build up, and the cover is prevented from becoming suddenly disengaged and thrown off the vessel.

    • A mixing apparatus for pastes comprises a mount (18) for a mixing container (19) supported on a rotor (10) for rotation relative to the rotor about an axis (16) which is eccentric with respect to the rotor axis (15). During a mixing phase, a transmission (20 . . . 22) causes the mount (18) to rotate about its eccentric axis (16) so that the mixing container (19) executes an overall circulatory reciprocation and the container contents (29) are subjected to a shaking motion. For a subsequent compression phase, the transmission (20 . . . 22) is switched-over while the rotor (10) continues to rotate, so that the mount (18) is now free to assume an orientation that is fixed with respect to the rotor (10) and in which the mixed paste is forced against a dispensing piston (55) provided in the container (19) and is thereby degassed.

    • An optical wave guide used for irradiation purposes in the dental field comprises a portion (10) tapering from a mean diameter at a radiation-entrance end (13) to a relatively small diameter, an intermediate portion (11) of said small diameter and curved about 90.degree., and a portion (12) succeeding the curved portion (11) and flaring out from said small diameter to a relatively large diameter at a radiation exit end (14) of the wave guide. Due to the fact that the curved portion (11) has a relatively small diameter it is possible also to minimize the radius of curvature of this portion without causing radiation loss. At the same time a relatively large area is obtained at the radiation-exit end (14) from which the radiation exits uniformly. The optical wave guide configured in this way is especially suitable for sealing occlusal tooth faces onto which the exit end (14) of the wave guide is flatly placed.

    • An apparatus for treating, particularly bleaching, dental objects, such as dentures or parts thereof, made of synthetic material includes a support disposed in a drawer for receiving the objects and a lamp disposed above the drawer for emitting radiation in a spectral range (approximately 400 to 500 nm) suitable for the bleaching process. An upper reflector surrounding the lamp reflects from the total radiation emitted by the lamp mainly the portion lying within the said spectral range while it transmits the remaining radiation to the outside. An inner surface of the drawer forms a lower reflector. The support also consists of reflective material and has a central semi-spherical projection to ensure that the object positioned on the support so as to surround the projection is irradiated from all sides. In another embodiment, the support for the dental object is made of glass, and two lamps each surrounded by a reflector are used to irradiate the object from above and below. In this case, the upper lamp and reflector are disposed to emit light in a substantially horizontal direction, and a mirror is disposed above the support to re-direct the irradiation towards the object. The mirror is mounted on a lid which is removable to allow easy access to the support. The support may be disposed in a vacuum-tight chamber connected to a vacuum pump.
