    • A method is devoted to the transmission, via a wave-based transmission infrastructure (RC) using an access method relying on multiplexing that is at least time division multiplexing, of content from at least one channel, each piece of content being arranged into one base data layer and at least one enhancement data layer, respectively associated with different transmission time slices, and broken down into portions transmitted during the time slices respectively associated with their layers. This method comprises i) the insertion, in a chosen location of each portion of a base data layer to be transmitted, within a chosen network layer, of at least one learning sequence processed according to a configuration scheme identical to that used to process said enhancement data layer, and ii) upon receiving a portion of a base data layer of a piece of content within a terminal (TC), extracting said learning sequence inserted into a chosen network layer, then estimating the reception quality based on that extracted learning sequence, and allowing it to use the next portion of said content's said enhancement data layer whenever the estimated quality is above a chosen threshold.

    • Composition and method of use for tannin based environmentally benign polymeric coagulants are disclosed. Tannin based coagulants are copolymers of naturally occurring tannins and a cationic monomer. One embodiment of the present invention provides for a composition, of a tannin based polymeric coagulant which is comprised of N,N-(dimethylaminoethyl) methacrylate (MADAME) polymerized using t-butylhydroperoxide and sodium metabisulfite. The resulting polyMADAME is converted to hydrochloride and then blended/reacted in an aqueous medium with tannin to obtain a homogenous poly(MADAME)-tannin composition. The method of use comprises adding an amount of the composition effective for the purpose of clarifying oily wastewater from food and beverage, steel, automotive, transportation, refinery, pharmaceutical, metals, paper and pulp, chemical processing and hydrocarbon processing industries.

    • Methods for authenticating peer mobile network nodes for establishing a secure peer-to-peer communications context in an ad-hoc network are presented. The methods include accessing wireless infrastructure network entities at low bandwidth and for a short time duration to obtain cryptographic information regarding a peer mobile network node for the purpose of establishing secure peer-to-peer communications therewith ad-hoc network. Having received cryptographic information regarding a peer mobile network node, the method further includes challenging the peer network node with a challenge phrase derived from the cryptographic information received, receiving a response, and establishing a secure communications context to the peer mobile network node based on the validity of the received response. Advantages are derived from addressing security threats encountered in provisioning ad-hoc networking, by leveraging wireless infrastructure network security architecture, exemplary deployed in UMTS/GSM infrastructure networks, enabling seamless mobile network node authentication through the existing UMTS and/or GSM authentication infrastructure, while pervasively communicating with peer mobile network nodes in an ad-hoc network.
