    • A data recording apparatus is disclosed comprising memory circuits for storing video and sound data, and an error check code generation circuit for generating check codes for the data. The check code data is stored in a data block including the data and the check code data generated in accordance with the data. The apparatus includes an interleaving portion for reading the data and check code data for every stored data block and interleaving a predetermined number of the data blocks to provide an editing unit. The apparatus further includes a recording portion for recording the interleaved data blocks on a magnetic tape through helical scanning of every editing unit. The data may include video data and corresponding sound data. The video data is recorded on the magnetic tape on consecutive (t−p) tracks and the sound data is recorded on the magnetic tape on consecutive p tracks. One of a plurality of interleaving patterns is selected, and data indicative of the interleaving pattern is also recorded at a sub-code area on each track. A data reproducing apparatus including a de-interleaving portion for restoring the interleaved data block is also disclosed.

    • A digital signal recording and reproducing method and apparatus that record and reproduce sequentially a normal reproducing digital signal and a multiple kind special reproducing digital signal on and from a tape-like recording medium. The data rate of the normal reproducing digital signal is detected. According to the detected data rate, either of the normal reproducing digital signal or special reproducing digital signal is selected. The selected digital signal is recorded at the predetermined location on a recording medium for recording the special reproducing digital signal. The sequentially recorded digital signal is reproduced, and each reproduced signal is detected either the normal reproducing digital signal or the multiple kind special reproducing digital signal. The digital signal detected as either of the digital signals is outputted separately. A tape-like recording medium having a track pattern having a plurality of tracks on which a normal reproducing digital signal and a multiple kind special reproducing digital signal are recorded sequentially. The track pattern provides a first area recording information showing the predetermined location at which the multiple kind special reproducing digital signal is to be recorded, and a plurality of second areas that are locations shown by information and record either of said normal reproducing digital signal or special reproducing digital signal is selected and recorded, according to the data rate of the normal reproducing digital signal.

    • A first rotational head of a first azimuth angle and a second rotational head of a second azimuth angle are arranged on a rotational drum rotated at a constant rotational speed. Therefore, the input digital signals can be recorded and reproduced regardless of the data rate of the signals.

    • A method for transmitting pieces of synchronized picture data having the same data length of which each include a synchronizing signal, an identifying code, pieces of compressed picture data having different data lengths and an error correcting code in that order is disclosed. To correctly decode each of the compressed picture data, it is required to start a decoding operation from a head address of each of the compressed picture signal. Therefore, in cases where a head address of a piece of compressed picture data exists in a piece of synchronized picture data, an existence information flag for informing the existence of the head address, an address pointer for indicating an address of the head address, and a block number for indicating a position of the compressed picture data having the head address are added just after the identifying code to correctly decode the compressed picture data and other pieces of following compressed picture data in the synchronized picture data. In contrast, in cases where any head address does not exist, a no-existence information flag for informing the no-existence of the head address is merely added just after the identifying code.
