    • A lubricating oil supplying system for an internal combustion engine includes a lubricating oil storage section for storing lubricating oil. A driven pump is driven by the internal combustion engine to suck the lubricating oil from the lubricating oil storage section and discharge the lubricating oil to a discharge passage. An electric pump is provided for sucking the lubricating oil discharged from the driven pump to the discharge passage and discharge the lubricating oil to a lubricating oil requiring section in the internal combustion engine. A controlling mechanism is provided for drivingly controlling the electric pump in accordance with a control signal. A bypass passage is provided for bypassing the driven pump. A check valve is disposed in the bypass passage to allow the lubricating oil in the lubricating oil storage section to flow only through a path bypassing the driven pump and toward the discharge passage.

    • A phase changing mechanism is disclosed which is applicable to a valve gear of a dual overhead camshaft internal combustion engine. The mechanism comprises a driving shaft, a cam rotatable relative to the driving shaft, a drive member fixed to the driving shaft, a driven member integral with the cam, a support, an intermediate member rotatablly supported in an eccentric circular cam integral with the support, a first coupling coupling the drive member with the intermediate member at a first position spaced from an axis of the driving shaft, and a second coupling coupling the driven member with the intermediate member at a second position angularly spaced from the first position with respect to the shaft axis. The first coupling has a movable connection with the intermediate member to permit variation in a distance of the first position from an axis of rotation of the intermediate member during operation. The second coupling has a movable connection with the intermediate member to permit variation in a distance of the second position from the axis of rotation of the intermediate member during operation. The support is rotatably supported by at least one of the drive and driven members.

    • A valve actuating device for an engine having first and second engine valves for each engine cylinder. The valve actuating device comprises first, second and third cams which have respectively first, second and third cam profiles which are different from each other. The first and second cam profiles are for a low engine speed range. The third cam profile is for a high engine speed range. First and second rocker arms are supported on a rocker shaft and swingable respectively in accordance with the first and second cam profiles and are adapted respectively to make valve movement actions of the first and second engine valves. A third rocker arm is supported on the rocker shaft and swingable in accordance with the third cam profile of the third cam. The third rocker arm is put into a first state to be simultaneously connected with the first and second rocker arms to serve as a single body, and a second state to be disconnected from the first and second rocker arms. Additionally, a connection mechanism is provided to put the third rocker arm into one of the first and second states, and includes a connection lever which is supported by the third rocker arm and swingable on a plane perpendicular to axis of the rocker shaft. A hydraulic pressure-operated driving device is provided to swingingly move the connection lever to engage with the engagement projections under hydraulic pressure. A lever restoring device is disposed in the third rocker arm to swingingly move the connection lever in a direction to put the third rocker arm into the second state.

    • A camshaft supported in an engine cylinder head structure has a low speed (lift) cam lobe and a high speed (lift) cam lobe. A rocker arm is supported by a hydraulic lash adjuster or a rocker shaft for pivotal motion and has a sub-rocker shaft and a pin. The rocker arm is drivingly engages the low lift cam lobe. A free cam follower is supported by the sub-rocker shaft and drivingly engages the high lift cam lobe. A latch lever supported by the pin has a latch position wherein one end portion of the latch lever is in locking engagement with the free cam follower and a latch release position wherein the one end portion of the latch lever is out of engagement with the free cam follower. A hydraulic piston received in bore is in driving engagement with the opposite end portion of the latch lever to urge the latch lever against a latch lever release spring towards the latch position thereof. Hydraulic fluid communication between the bore and a hydraulic fluid passage of the cylinder head structure is established through the hydraulic lash adjuster or the rocker shaft.

    • A control device controls intake and exhaust valves of an internal combustion engine. The device comprises a first flange provided by a cam shaft of the engine, which flange has a first radially extending elongate slit. A second flange faces the first flange with a certain clearance therebetween and is secured to a drive shaft to rotate therewith. The second flange has a second radially extending elongate slit. An annular member is disposed within the clearance and rotatable about an axis of the drive shaft. First and second pins are rotatably held by opposed sides of the annular member respectively. These pins are positioned at diametrically opposed positions with respect to a center of the annular member and slidably engaged with the first and second elongate slits respectively. A drive mechanism is employed for pivoting the annular member about a pivot axis eccentric to the axis of the drive shaft in accordance with an operating condition of the engine.
