    • A metallic honeycomb body has an axial length, a partial volume covering at least 55% of the axial length, a radial dimension of at least 20 mm, an inflow end side and an outflow end side. The honeycomb body includes sheet-metal layers structured to permit a fluid to flow through the honeycomb body in a flow direction from the inflow end side to the outflow end side. The sheet-metal layers each have a surface area, partial regions and edges at the end sides. Each of the sheet-metal layers have a multiplicity of holes formed at least in the partial regions in the partial volume. Each of the holes have a hole surface area of between 1 and 120 mm2. The sheet-metal layer surface area in the partial volume is reduced by 10 to 80% by the holes as compared to a sheet-metal layer without holes. The partial volume is disposed at a distance from each of the end sides, preventing the holes from touching and from cutting through the edges of the end sides of the sheet-metal layers.

    • A honeycomb body includes separating walls defining channels for channelling a gas, and an adsorber material disposed on at least part of the separating walls. The inner cross-section and number of channels define a specific geometric surface area (GSA) of the honeycomb body, and they are at least partially separated from one another by separating walls. The material and thickness of the walls define a specific heat capacity with regard to the geometric unit area. The honeycomb body has an adsorption material provided especially for hydrocarbon adsorption. The specific GSA of the body is greater than or equal to 37.5 m K/J, preferably, ≧40, and, particularly, >60, the GSA being divided by the specific heat capacity (cp) with regard to the area, measured at room temperature without absorption material and eventual other coatings. The body can additionally have a catalytically active coating that, at least, is oxidative. The body is preferably constructed of sheet metal layers having a thickness of ≦40 &mgr;m with more than 450 cpsi, especially more than 540 cpsi. A hydrocarbon trap of such dimensions can be used for the purification of motor vehicle exhaust gases to reduce the emission of pollutants during the cold-start phase.

    • A method for providing a reducing agent-containing gas flow in the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine includes providing at least one reducing agent precursor, evaporating the precursor to provide a gas flow, at least partially heating the gas flow to temperatures of at least 250° C., at least partially converting the precursor in the gas flow to a reducing agent and adding the reducing agent-containing gas flow to the exhaust of the engine. The method and a device provide a reducing agent-containing gas flow in a quantity being easily controllable and adaptable to dynamic changes especially in exhaust systems of mobile applications such as automobiles. A temperature of a first zone is kept at 150° C. or just below while a temperature of a second zone is kept at more than 300° C. A hydrolysis catalytic converter is hardly cooled upon receiving the precursor as a vapor, positively affecting the method.
