    • An inner tubular portion (15) and an outer tubular portion (16) form an insertion space (14) of a plastic pipe (11) and are integrally formed on a joint main body (13). A cap (29) is connected to the outer tubular portion (16) by projection-recess engagement. A retainer mechanism (27) of the plastic pipe (11) is provided between the outer tubular portion (16) and the cap (29). A cutout portion (20) is formed in the outer tubular portion (16), and a bulging engagement portion (24) is arranged on the cutout portion (20). The outer periphery of the bulging engagement portion (24) is connected to the cap (29) by the projection-recess engagement. A restricting portion is provided between the cutout portion (20) and the bulging engagement portion (24). The restricting portion is composed of a first tapered surface (21) and a second tapered surface (25). The first tapered surface (21) is provided on the cutout portion (20) and decreases in width toward the outer end. The second tapered surface (25) is provided on the bulging engagement portion (24) and engaged with the first tapered surface (21).

    • In a semiconductor laser device, an AlGaN buffer layer, a GaN layer, an n-GaN layer, an n-AlGaN cladding layer, an MQW light emitting layer, a p-AlGaN cladding layer, a p-first GaN cap layer, a current blocking layer composed of n-AlGaN, and a p-second GaN cap layer are stacked in this order on a sapphire substrate, and a ridge portion having an upper surface having a width W1 is formed by etching. The current blocking layer has an opening having a width W2 on the upper surface of the ridge portion. The width W2 of the opening is smaller than the width W1 of the upper surface of the ridge portion. Accordingly, in a light emitting region of the MQW light emitting layer, a saturable light absorbing region is formed on both sides of a current injection region.

    • Methods and apparatus for burning fuel from a supply of solid fuel positioned at one side of a grating light a layer of the solid fuel at the grating to discharge combustible gas. Such discharged gas is drawn through the grating to a side of the grating opposite the mentioned one side and such drawn gas is burned at the other side of the grating. Attainable temperature of said grating, acting as a primary grating, is increased by providing a secondary grating spaced from such primary grating and located between that primary grating and a fire chamber.The methods and apparatus of the subject invention enable particulate, pelletized and other solid fuels, as well as combustible refuse and garbage, to be burned at an efficiency and convenience similar to the combustion of heating oil, and yet provide heat at a fraction of the cost of oil and gas heating methods.
