    • A computer implemented method, an apparatus, and a computer usable program product for controlling startup request flooding. An application server instance is started. If the application server instance is throttled during a startup interval, a Web container thread manager is initiated. If the Web container thread manager identifies it is time to increment a Web container maximum thread pool size for the application server instance, the application server instance is notified to increment its Web container maximum thread pool size by a programmable amount. If the Web container maximum thread pool size for the application server instance has not reached a final maximum thread pool size, and if the startup interval for the application server instance has not completed, the Web container thread manager is suspended for an interval, after which the Web container thread manager identifies if it is time to increment the Web container maximum thread pool size for the application server instance.

    • A system and method for load balancing a publish/subscribe messaging system comprising a topic subscription program, a publication program, and a message delivery program is disclosed. The topic subscription program allows a subscriber to subscribe to a topic, and to share a subscription to that topic with other subscribers within the messaging system. The publication program publishes messages to a topic. The message delivery program sends a copy of a message to each subscription and chooses the subscriber within the subscription to receive the message in accordance with a subscription dispatcher. A messaging system which has been configured in accordance with one aspect of the present invention can include a message server; one or more topics stored in the message server; one or more subscriptions associated with at least one of the topics in the message server; and, a subscription program, a publication program and a message delivery program in the server.

    • Various systems, apparatuses, and processes may be used for intraocular lens surgery. In particular implementations, a system for intraocular lens surgery may include a body and a plunger. The body may, for example, include an outer wall and an inner wall, where the inner wall defines a passage through the body and includes a first guide member. The plunger may, for example, be adapted to move within the passage and include a first end, a second end, and a second guide member. The first end may be adapted to be engaged by a user for moving the plunger within the passage, and the second end may include a tip adapted to interface with an intraocular lens and having an asymmetric cross-section. The second guide member may interact with the first guide member to rotate the tip when the plunger is moved through the body.

    • A single piece intraocular lens folder that has a generally planar, open frame in the shape of a rounded "A" with a rimmed, open head at the top of the "A". The base of the "A" forms a pairs of opposing legs or handles that join to form a hinge at the intersection where the handles attach to the head. The hinge allows the handle to be squeezed together and spring apart when released. Squeezing the handles together causes the sides of the head to spread apart, thereby stretching the top edge of the head rim and pulling the top edge downward toward the hinge. The open head contains a pair of support jaws and a pair of serpentine folding jaws. The location of the serpentine jaws is such that when the top edge of the head rim moves toward the hinge, the serpentine jaws are squeezed together, causing the IOL to be folded in half. The serpentine shape of the folding jaws allow the haptics to pivot downward, thereby permitting the IOL to be folded along a plurality of axes.
