    • A video display device includes a display panel; a memory storing defect information for compensating data to be displayed on defect regions of the display panel; a compensation circuit comprising a first compensator that compensates the data to be displayed on the defect regions using the defect information from the memory, and a second compensator that finely compensates the data compensated by the first compensator using a first dither pattern, the compensation circuit supplying data to be displayed on normal regions without compensation; a timing controller comprising a dithering unit for finely compensating data output from the compensation circuit, using a second dither pattern having a size larger that a size of the first dither pattern; and a panel driver for driving the display panel under a control of the timing controller.

    • The present invention relates to a flat panel display device that is adaptive for preventing a brightness inversion phenomenon generated when the data modulated before are re-modulated in a multi-modulation method where data are modulated several times, and a data multi-modulation method thereof. The flat panel display device includes a first modulator which primarily modulates digital video data, which are to be displayed in a flat panel display panel, with pre-stored first compensation values in order to adjust at least any one of a response characteristic and a contrast ratio of the flat panel display panel. The flat panel display device further includes a second modulator which secondarily modulates the digital video data, which are to be displayed at a defect display area of which the brightness appears different from that of a normal display surface when displaying the same gray level in the flat panel display panel, with pre-stored second compensation values.

The first compensation data is adjusted through at spatial dispersion or temporal dispersion; the data that are to be displayed in a fixed area inclusive of the boundary are adjusted by dispersing the second compensation data to the fixed area inclusive of the boundary; the data that are to be displayed in the link pixel are adjusted to the third compensation data.

    • Circuit for compensating a display defect in a video display device of the present invention includes a memory having position information on a plurality of regular patterned defective regions of a display panel, gray scale section information, a defect level data on each of the regular patterned defective regions, and a plurality of compensation data on each of the defect level data stored therein, a first compensation unit, upon reception of data to be displayed on the regular patterned defective regions, for determining defect level data on the regular patterned defective regions of the data to be displayed, selecting a compensation data set on the defect level data determined thus, and selecting a compensation data on the data to be displayed from the compensation data selected thus, for compensating the data to be displayed, and a second compensator for distributing the data compensated thus at the first compensation unit spatially and temporally by using dither patterns for making fine compensation, thereby suppressing size increase of the compensation data.
