    • Provided are a data processing apparatus and method that make it possible to detect improper resource data that has been stored in a printer. The data processing apparatus, which is connectable to an image forming apparatus that refers to resource data when an image is formed, first acquires information relating to resource data that has been stored in the image forming apparatus and stores the information on a hard disk. Next, improper resource data is detected by control exercised by a CPU in the processing apparatus based upon the acquired information relating to the resource data. After prescribed processing is executed with respect to improper resource data that has been detected, information relating to prescribed resource data is provided to the image forming apparatus via a network controller.

    • A centralized monitoring system for managing maintenance information of an image forming apparatus has a database for registering a device identifier, to identify a device including an image forming apparatus or a local monitoring apparatus that goes between said image forming apparatus and a server system, as master information. The centralized monitoring system obtains the device identifier communicated from the device. In response to the obtaining of the device identifier, the centralized monitoring system responds to the notifying device to communicate the maintenance information indicating an operating status of the image forming apparatus, even if the obtained device identifier is not registered in the database. Then, if it is determined that the obtained device identifier is not registered in the database, the centralized monitoring system determines whether the device identifier is registered in the database or not.

    • The invention manages the download of print resource data, which is used during print processing, to a plurality of printing apparatuses in a network system in which the plurality of printing apparatuses and a server are connected. An identifier for g the print resource data to be downloaded is input, and downloadable printing apparatuses are determined in accordance with a type of a storage device attached to each of the plurality of printing apparatuses. The print resource data corresponding to the input identifier is downloaded to the determined printing apparatuses. When the data processing apparatus holds the print resource data corresponding to the identifier, the held print resource data is downloaded, and when the data processing apparatus does not hold the print resource data corresponding to the identifier, the print resource data is acquired from the server and downloaded. A server flag set to the downloaded print resource data is read, and it is determined that the downloaded print resource data should be transferred to the server when the server flag indicates that the downloaded print resource data should be transferred to said server, and it is determined determining that the downloaded print resource data should not be transferred to said server when the server flag indicates that the downloaded print resource data should not be transferred to said server.
