    • Disclosed is an apparatus in which various types of power control switches are selectively fixed to a vacuum cleaner. The apparatus for fixing a power control switch to a vacuum cleaner according to the present invention includes a pair of first bosses for fixing a first power control switch which is selected from the various types of power control switches to a body of the vacuum cleaner, and a pair of brackets which are integrally formed together with the first bosses, respectively, for enclosing and supporting the first power control switch. The apparatus also includes a pair of second bosses for fixing a second power control switch which is selected from the various types of power control switches to the body of the vacuum cleaner. In the apparatus according to the present invention, the power control switch which is selected from the various types of the power control switches is mounted and fixed to the first bosses and the brackets, or the second bosses and the brackets according to a type of the power control switch. Therefore, there is an advantage in that a user can use the various types of the power control switches according to his/her preference.

    • A slidable element is provided for easy positioning in a guide slot when a handle is withdrawn. A handle 40 is inclinably provided on a mount body 35 bearing a movable electrode 31 by a support shaft 45. The support shaft 45 is loosely movable with respect to the mount body 35 by being fixed to the handle 40 and being inserted through oblong holes 42 formed in bearing portions 41 of the mount body 35. In order to withdraw the handle 40, it is necessary to position slidable projections 70 at the bottom ends of linear portions 75 of guide slots 74 while the handle 40 is pulled up. Since the support shaft 45 is movable upward within the oblong holes 42, the handle 40 can singly be pulled up while the movable electrode 31 is still engaged with the fixed electrodes 11a, 11b. During this time, the slidable projections 70 can be positioned and passed through the linear portions 75 of the guide slots 74 with a small force.

    • A modular electrical switch provides a wiping or shearing action upon closing and opening thereof. A contact carrier disposed within a housing linearly carries a movable contact into engagement with a stationary contact. The contact carrier is guided by movable slide plates disposed on either side thereof and movable along with the contact carrier as a contact assembly. The guide plates also provide pivot recesses for pivot bosses of the contact carrier. The contact carrier is constrained to linear motion up to the point of contact between the movable contact and the stationary contact by a cam trace in the housing. After contact between the movable contact and the stationary contact, the contact carrier reaches a pocket defined by the cam trace, ceases linear movement and upwardly pivots to provide a wiping action between the movable contact and the stationary contact. Immediately upon reversed, pivoting and linear motion of the contact carrier a shearing action is provided between the movable contact and the stationary contact. A plurality of such modular switches are utilized in a freight elevator interlock system for regulating the opening and closing of the various doors and carriage of the freight elevator. A common sliding actuator controls the modular switches regardless of the orientation of the respective switches within the housing.

    • A latch for connecting a switch operator, such as a push button, to contact blocks in an industrial switch employs opposed spring loaded teeth to engage detent surfaces on the operator. The teeth are attached to jaws generally along a line parallel to the line between the opposed teeth but to one side of a sleeve receiving the operator. The jaws and teeth are connected so that separation of the jaws separate the teeth allowing disengagement of the operator. The space between the jaws is accessible along an axis extending toward the back of the switch so as to permit release of the operator by means of a tool such as a screwdriver without clearance about the switch. The teeth may be wedge shaped to permit the operator to snap in place, only, without the use of the tool.

    • A replacement windshield washer switch actuator lever is used in the repair of a turn signal arm assembly for certain models of motor vehicles produced by General Motors. The replacement actuator lever is comprised of a hollow sleeve for mounting on the turn signal arm assembly. One end of the sleeve is selectively configured as a lever for manual operation, and the opposite end is configured to engage the washer switch in the steering column. An aperture is defined in the sleeve to complement the position of the cruise control wire harness for receiving the wire harness therethrough. Sleeve aperture access means permit installation of the actuator lever without damaging or disconnecting the wire harness. Preferably, the aperture access means comprises a slot in the sleeve extending from the aperture through the lever end of the sleeve.

    • A vacuum contactor with a kick-out spring that does not require readjustment after disassembly of internal portions of the vacuum contactor. Two separate frame members are secured fixedly against each other in register in the operational mode. The bottom portion of a vertically disposed kick-out spring is attached to a horizontal bar which captures a lever. The lever is interconnected with an electromagnet and with the contacts of a vacuum interrupter in an integrated system so that energization of the electromagnet forces the contacts to a closed state and exerts tension against the spring through the horizontal bar. Deenergization of the electromagnet allows the kick-out spring to relax its tension thus opening the aforementioned contacts. When the two frame portions are separated, the spring relaxes to a minimal tension disposition but is prevented from further relaxation because of a mechanical stop which prevents the horizontal bar from moving upwardly and yet allows the lever members to be disengaged from the horizontal bar.
