When the first rotor plate 17 and the second-rotor plate 18 are operatively coupled with each other with a torsion coil spring 19 for reversing and the first rotor plate 17 is rotated, a reversing force from the torsion coil spring 19 causes the contact driving part 17d to engage with or disengage from the contact plate 2.

    • A biasing assembly for a switching device is formed in a modular enclosure that may be mounted on either left or right sides of the switching device. The biasing assembly interfaces with the switching device to rapidly move the switching device between first and second stable positions, such as corresponding to open and closed contact orientations. The biasing assembly includes a hub and link plate coupled to a spring assembly. A spring in the spring assembly is precharged by initial movement of an actuating handle. Once a predetermined intermediate position is reached, a double roller arrangement is displaced along a support surface to rapidly toggle the spring assembly, link plate and hub to a second position. The enclosure includes abutment surfaces for stopping and holding the link plate in stable positions. The rolling contact afforded by the spring assembly rollers permits extremely rapid displacement and rolling friction during displacement of the assembly.

    • A compact, double-throw double-pole push-button electric switch is comprised of: a base; four electric terminals fixed to the base; a lower spring retainer pivoted on the base; a push-button key slidingly disposed and captively retain within a housing connected to the base; an upper retainer pivotally disposed within the push-button key and carrying a shorting bar between the opposing pairs of terminals; a coil compression spring captively retained at one end by the lower spring retainer and captively retained at its opposing end by the upper spring retainer; and a pair of double lobe cams connected to the lower spring. As the push-button is depressed, the camming surface within the push-button key comes into sliding contact with one of the two lobes of each of the cams. The cams rotate on the base and bring a fixed lever arm extending from the cam into contact with the shorting bar. The shorting bar is lifted from a contact with the electric terminals and rotated with the upper spring retainer across the gap between the terminals. Simultaneously, the coil spring becomes compressed and straighten. At that point where the cam has rotated sufficiently far so that the coil spring is flexed in the opposing direction, the coil spring will expand thereby snapping the shorting bar across the terminal gap.

    • An electric snap-action switch is disclosed having a movable contactor with oppositely inclined camming surfaces meeting at an apex on the top thereof. The contactor is centrally biased upwardly from below and cammed downwardly from above by a laterally movable operator traversing the inclined camming surfaces such that the contactor snaps laterally against vertical stationary contacts as the apex is crossed by the operator. The invention includes fulcrum means effective to stop the downward movement of the contactor before the operator crosses the apex whereby a moment arm is formed from a fulcrum to the point of operator-contactor engagement such that further movement of the operator towards the apex effectuates a torque on the contactor to pivot the contactor about the fulcrum to positively break any welds or other frictional attachments between the contacts without relying on the stored energy of the carrier biasing means, thereby affording a switch having little possibility of failure in an "on" position. The inclined camming surfaces of the contactor may be formed with compound slopes to assure constant operator pressure prior to trip point as the contactor pivots and increases the angle of inclination of the camming surface traversed by the operator. Specific embodiments of a double-pole single-throw trigger switch and a double-pole double-throw toggle lever switch are disclosed.
