    • An apparatus and method are provided for cutting a sheet of material into a plurality of segments having curved edges. A sheet of material is placed on a frame having a horizontal support member. A clamping device secures the sheet and a first mechanism moves the clamping device and sheet in an axial direction. A cutting head assembly is provided with a passively rotatable knife adapted to cut the sheet as the sheet moves in an axial direction past the knife. The cutting head assembly is rotatable about a vertical axis and movable in a lateral direction perpendicular to the axial motion of the sheet. A second mechanism moves the cutting head assembly in said lateral direction, and a third mechanism rotates the cutting head assembly. To produce a continuous cutting line, a controller sends a signal to the first, second, and third moving mechanisms which simultaneously moves the corresponding components at a desired rate and distance.

    • An apparauts for placing a printer-slotter in positions where it processes sheets of corrugated paper. The printer-slotter includes a feeding unit for feeding the sheets, processing units, and differentials connected with the processing units. The apparatus comprises a position detector for detecting the position of the kicker of the feeding unit, positioning controllers connected with a central control unit (CCU), and sensors detecting the angular positions of the rotating cylinders included in the printing units and in the creaser-and-slotter unit. The sensors are connected with the positioning controllers, respectively. The CCU compares the position of the kicker with the positions at which the processing units process the sheets. The CCU controls the differentials in such a way that the position of the kicker corresponds to the positions at which the processing units process the sheets.

    • A citrus fruit segmenter which uses a slicing lever mounted with a blade which is attached to the sidewalls of a frame by another pair of levers. The slicing lever with the blade nudges a resiliently biased crank lever which intermittently rotates a ratchet wheel upon which a cup is mounted to carry a half of grapefruit or large orange. The crank lever has a tooth element designed to engage the toothed ratchet wheel and to retract when working against a locking pawl. The tooth element is also resiliently biased. The resilient biasing of the crank lever and the toothed element are accomplished by corrosion-resistant "O" rings. All of the elements of the device are made of corrosion-resistant material. The blade is made of stainless steel, the frame and levers are made of synthetic resinous material.

    • Apparatus for cutting foam or the like products into predetermined patterns under electronic computer control and employing an apparatus that includes a frame, a table disposed in the frame and for receiving the product that is to be cut, and a carriage carrying at least one hot wire and preferably four hot wires. The carriage is disposed over the table and is suitably supported from the frame. There is provided associated with the carriage, both a first drive means for controllably driving the carriage in a first x direction and second means for controllably driving the carriage in a second Y direction. Control means are provided for controlling the first and second drive means to control product cutting along a predetermined path which in the disclosed embodiment is a diagonal path to provide final foam pieces cut in a pyramidal array configuration.

    • A gel slicer consisting of a support with a gel guide trough and a feed screw journalled parallel to the trough. A feed plunger assembly is threadedly engaged on the feed screw and has a plunger portion slidably engaged in the trough. The feed screw is intermittently driven by a power shaft via selectable identical-diameter gear discs with different-length tooth configuration for varying the increment of feed of the gel per revolution of the power shaft. The gear discs have smooth peripheral portions providing dwell periods of the feed screw. A pivoted transverse cutting blade is spring-biased toward cutting position over the trough and is held elevated by a follower lug engaging a cam on the power shaft, the cam having a blade-release notch. The cam is synchronized to release the cutting blade during the dwell period of the feed screw. Thus, the thickness of the slice depends on the amount of teeth on that gear disc which is selected to drive the feed screw. The selected gear provides desired incremental steps of longitudinal movement of the gel.

    • The ticket dispenser includes lower and upper overlying support plates which define a ticket material passageway therebetween. A reel support is mounted on one end and cutting apparatus are mounted on the other end of the support plates. A feed slot is formed in the upper support plate and a feed pawl reciprocates in the feed slot. A feed pawl cam urges the feed pawl downwardly into engagement with the ticket material in the passageway as the feed pawl moves toward the cutting apparatus, and urges the feed pawl upwardly away from the ticket material as the feed pawl moves away from the cutting apparatus. As the feed pawl reaches the end of its feeding stroke, the cutting apparatus cuts off the portion of the ticket material that has been pushed beyond the cutting means, and feed out apparatus pulls additional ticket material from the reel.
