    • An irrigation control system for land comprising: (a) at least one meter to measure one or more wheather conditions in a first area; (b) at least one monitor to (i) examine rainfall data derived from a radar scanning at least the first area according to predetermined criteria and (ii) to extract data which is representative of the scanned rainfall in a sub-area of the first area; (c) a store to store the extracted data; and (d) a controller connected directly or indirectly to the meter and the monitor and to the store, to calculate a moisture content value for the sub-area and a predetermined moisture content value for the sub-area, and to regulate the irrigation in a sub-area.

    • In a stabilisation system a platform is stabilised about two perpendicular axes by means of a gyro-controlled servo system. The vertical gyro being used in the stabilisation system is cardanic suspended in a gyro housing mounted on said platform. In a first step the spin axis of the vertical gyro is brought, to some extent, from a random orientation to a position vertical with respect to the earth surface by means of two synchro transmitters coupled to the gyro, first control circuits connected to each of these synchro transmitters, and two torque motors, and in a second step the vertical gyro is held in said vertical position by means of two accelerometers mounted on the platform to be stabilised, second control circuits connected to each of these accelerometers, and the abovementioned torque motors.

    • A controller for opening and closing a ventilator for a greenhouse in response to temperature sensed by a thermostat within the greenhouse. The ventilator is opened and closed by a single-phase capacitor start motor having a centrifugal switch connected in series with its starting winding. The motor is controlled by a reversing relay which is coupled to the motor so as to cause the motor to drive in a direction to open the ventilator when an open-relay coil in the relay is energized and to cause the motor to drive in a direction to close the ventilator when a close-relay coil within the relay is energized. A delay system is provided to prevent the motor from being energized to reverse its direction of rotation for a time period sufficient to enable the centrifugal switch to close. The delay system is arranged so that when the thermostat first calls for a reversal of the drive motor it actuates a delay motor. The delay motor drives a cam which, after a delay sufficient to enable the centrifugal switch to drop out actuates a switch means to disconnect the delay motor and to energize the close (or open) relay, thus energizing the drive motor.
