    • A fluid characteristic indicator for measuring and indicating a characteristic of a body fluid from a medical or veterinary patient has a generally tubular housing with a suction port at a proximal end and a fluid inlet port at the distal end. An fluid characteristic indicating element is disposed in the housing. A diffuser is provided in the housing to support the indicating element and direct fluid from the inlet port toward the indicating element. The diffuser has at least one fluid channel to direct fluid toward the indicating element. The fluid channel may take the form of a spiral or helix. Alternatively, the diffuser may have a plurality of longitudinal fluid channels. the housing and the diffuser may have additional structures forming channels that cooperatively direct fluid toward the indicating element. The diffuser and may occupy nearly all the interior volume of the housing. Control of the fluid flow makes exposure and saturation of the indicator more accurate, avoids spurious indications due to the color of the fluid itself reduces the amount of fluid sample needed to obtain an indication or measurement.

    • A fluid-pressure indicator includes a housing having a first region and a second region. A pressure-responsive member is disposed in the first region and is movable between an expanded state and a compressed state. An indicator disk is viewable through the pressure-responsive member when the pressure-responsive member is in the compressed state and is obscured from view through the pressure-responsive member when the pressure-responsive member is in the expanded state. A diaphragm is movable from a relaxed state to a deflected state in response to pressure within the second region exceeding a threshold pressure and prevents fluid communication between the first region and the second region. The diaphragm additionally causes the pressure-responsive member to move from the expanded state to the compressed state when the pressure exceeds the threshold pressure.

    • There is disclosed a pressure responsive device incorporating a snap action disc spring having arms for actuating an indicator plate with indicia thereon. In one arrangement the arms extend from the inner peripheral edge of the disc spring, and in other arrangements the arms extend from the outer peripheral edge of the spring. The indicator plate is adapted for rotational movement with lateral movements of the arms when the spring snaps, as by direct connection to the ends of the arms or by means of gearing or other provision of converting linear motion to rotary motion of a pin or shaft of the indicator plate. The plate is below a cover that has openings in which the indicia are aligned upon its rotation to the position caused by the snap action of the disc spring in response to predetermined level of pressure of fluid applied to the pressure responsive device.
