    • Disclosed are a glass for a cathode ray tube which glass can be decreased in thickness and weight, a glass panel for a cathode ray tube, a cathode ray tube and methods for producing them. Further disclosed are a strengthened glass having a high bending strength and a thick stress-strain layer, a glass for a display which glass is made of the strengthened glass, particularly, a glass panel for a cathode ray tube and a cathode ray tube. The present invention provides (1) a glass for a cathode ray tube which glass is made of a chemically strengthened glass and has a Young's modulus of at least 90 GPa, (2) a glass for a cathode ray tube, which is a chemically strengthened glass from a matrix glass which comprises SiO2, Al2O3, an alkali metal oxide, SrO and ZrO2 and has an Al2O3 content of more than 4% by weight but not more than 20% by weight and an SrO content of 5 to 20% by weight, and (3) a strengthened glass formed by chemical strengthening of a physically strengthened matrix glass at a temperature lower than the strain temperature of the matrix glass.

    • A method is provided for making clear glass having an azure edge coloration and low amber surface coloration in a non-vacuum float glass system. The method includes processing batch materials in a non-vacuum float glass system to provide a final glass product including: 1 SiO265-75 wt. %;null Na2O10-20 wt. %;null CaO5-15 wt. %;null MgO0-5 wt. %; Al2O30-5 wt. %; K2O0-5 wt. %; a colorant portion having total iron (Fe2O3) of 0-0.02 wt. %, CoO of 0-5 ppm, Nd2O3 of 0-0.1 wt. %, and CuO of 0-0.03 wt. %. The glass has a redox ratio in the range of 0.2 to 0.6, and can have a retained sulfur content of less than or equal to 0.2 wt. %, such as less than or equal to 0.11 wt. %.

    • The present invention is a bronze and gray glass composition. The composition comprises 68 to 75% SiO2, 10 to 18% Na2O, 5 to 15% CaO, 0 to 10% MgO, 0 to 5% Al2O3, and 0 to 5% K2O, where CaOnullMgO is 6 to 15% and Na2OnullK2O is 10 to 20%, and colorants comprising: 0.22 to 0.39 wt. % total iron as Fe2O3 wherein the ratio of FeO/total Fe as Fe2O3 is 0.35 to 0.64; 0.1 to 0.5 wt. % manganese compound as MnO2; 0 to 1.2 wt. % cerium oxide as CeO2; and 2 to 10 ppm selenium, and 0 to 20 ppm cobalt as cobalt oxide. The colored glass has the following spectral properties at 4.0 mm. thickness: 65 to 78% light transmittance using Illuminant A (LTA) and using Illuminant C has a dominant wavelength of 493 to 577 nanometers with an excitation purity up to 7%.
