    • The invention relates to a finned tube (1), a process for its manufacture and a device for performing the process. In order to be able to work with little financial outlay and in an energy-saving manner, and to create a product where the entire width of the base of the fin is optimally joined to the tube surface and the joint area displays good thermal conduction, the working end of the welding device (7) is inserted into the free wedge-shaped space between the tube surface (3) and the strip (4) where, with the aid of the welding device (7) a welding bead (11) is applied, running exactly in the area of the joint between the strip (4) and the tube surface (3), to the tube surface (3) using a filler, before the narrow edge of the strip (4) to be joined makes contact. The narrow edge of the strip (4) to be joined is subsequently pressed into the welding bead (11) while it is still liquid.

    • Machinery for welding helical-seam pipe from metal strip. It includes a strip feed, a strip shaper, a seam welder, a pipe output, and a downstream pipe sectioner. The pipe sectioner has a cutter that moves back and forth axially, trimming sections of different lengths from the pipe as it rotates around its axis and leaves the machinery. The machinery also has controls that determine the welding gap between the section of the strip and the beginning of the pipe and how rapidly the pipe cutter moves along the pipe. How rapidly (v) the pipe cutter (47) moves along the pipe is controlled by three detectors. One detector (60 determines how rapidly (v.sub.b) the strip is traveling. Another detector (62) determines the strip-infeed angle (.alpha.) between the section (9) of strip and the axis of the pipe. A third detector, a camera (53), determines the axial deviation of the incision (54) over an angle (.beta.) to the pipe cutter at the circumference of the pipe.

    • An apparatus and a method for automatically welding a T-junction connector to a main pipe are disclosed. The apparatus includes a rotatable frame which is provided with a movable bracket for supporting a welding gun. The frame is preferably attached by a vertical shaft to a portable framework having a wheeled leg and a pair of spaced apart horizontal handles. The portable framework may be moved from one location to another on its wheeled leg. The frame is rotated about the shaft by a computer controlled motor. Two other motors mounted to the frame are interconnected with the bracket for supporting a welding gun or torch, and adapted to move the welding gun along axes parallel with and normal to a T-junction connector supported in a preformed hole in a main pipe.
