    • A hand-held reciprocating power tool, such as a reciprocating saw, wherein the angle of the reciprocation motion axis with reference to the longitudinal axis of the power tool motor housing is adjustable. Within a motor housing there is a motor driving a motor shaft which rotates on a motor shaft axis generally along the longitudinal axis. A nosepiece includes a nosepiece base portion fixed to the motor housing, and a nosepiece movable portion rotably mounted to the nosepiece base portion. The nosepiece moveable portion can be positionally adjusted relative to the nosepiece base portion over an angle of at least 180.degree. by rotation on a nosepiece axis which is perpendicular to the motor shaft axis. A reciprocating element is supported by the nosepiece moveable portion. A motion conversion mechanism, such as a Scotch yoke, within the nosepiece converts motor shaft rotation to reciprocation motion and drives the reciprocating element in reciprocation regardless of the rotational position of the nosepiece moveable portion on the nosepiece axis with reference to the nosepiece base portion. A toolholder is fixed to the reciprocating element for attachment of a tool, such as a saw blade. The toolholder is capable of being positionally adjusted to various angular orientations on the reciprocation motion axis, for example, angular orientations at 90.degree. intervals.

    • A hand-held reciprocating power tool, such as a reciprocating saw, wherein the angle of the reciprocation motion axis with reference to the longitudinal axis of the power tool motor housing is adjustable. The toolholder is capable of being positionally adjusted to various angular orientations on the reciprocation motion axis, for example, angular orientations at 90.degree. intervals.

    • A scroll saw includes a pair of spaced generally parallel upper and lower arms, a saw blade, and a saw blade fastening and tension adjusting device for securing the saw blade between the upper and lower arms. The adjusting device includes a channel, an elongated blade support, upper and lower blade holders, and an adjustment unit. The channel opens downwardly and is formed on a distal end of the upper arm. The blade support has an inner end which extends into the channel and which is connected pivotally to spaced side plates of the channel. The upper blade holder is mounted on a distal end of the blade support, while the lower blade holder is mounted on the distal end of the lower arm. The upper and lower blade holders hold removably and respectively two ends of the saw blade. The adjustment unit includes a compression spring, a connecting post and a lever. The spring is disposed between a top plate of the channel and a top surface of the blade support. The connecting post has a threaded lower end which extends through the channel and the compression spring and which is connected threadedly to the blade support. The lever has a front portion which is provided with a cam surface that abuts against the top plate of the channel and which is mounted pivotally on the connecting post.

    • A light-weight and structurally simple system for guiding the saw frame of a mechanical frame saw machine having a crank drive and a stationary machine frame on which the system is pivotally mounted. The system is composed of a vertically extending, flat inner guide plate pivotally mounted to the machine frame and carrying bearings mounted on bolts, and a guide part having the form of a plate, attached to the saw frame back, and provided with a laterally extending guide surface which bears against the guide plate and slides therealong during movement of the guide part relative to the guide plate, the guide part being provided with a vertical guide groove located, in the horizontal direction, midway between the ends of the guide part for engagement by the machine crank drive, and with two horizontal guide grooves presenting horizontal guide faces and extending in respectively opposite horizontal directions from respectively opposite ends of the vertical groove, the horizontal grooves and their associated guide faces engaging the bearings of the guide plate to be supported thereby. The guide part is provided, at the lateral side thereof which faces away from the guide plate, with at least one further guide surface extending parallel to the guide plate, and the system is further provided with a guide beam carried by the bolts to bear against the further guide surface in a manner to brace the guide part relative to the guide plate.

    • A direct coupled way system for band saw machines wherein a cutting band is trained in tension over spaced upstream and downstream band wheels which are supported by a movable head for moving the cutting band with respect to a work piece held in position in the path of the cutting band by an arrangement of support members. A shoe is slidably connected to the downstream support member, i.e. the support member which lies between the work piece and the downstream band wheel. A leg having a first end and a second end is connected at its first end to the downstream section of the movable head and at its second end engages the shoe, the resulting way system thereby directly couples the downstream section of the movable head and the downstream support member to obviate deflections in the movable head and other structural components which result in dimensional changes in the distance between the downstream section of the movable head and the downstream support member which are caused by fluctuations in the cutting force. The leg is connected to the downstream section of the movable head and moves with the movable head in relation to the work piece. The shoe, being slidably connected to the downstream support member and to the leg, is permitted to move in the direction of movable head motion as the cutting band is moved into or out of the work area. The shoe and leg may be integrally molded or otherwise rigidly connected in band saw machines where the movable head is constrained to 1.degree. of motion relative to the work piece.
