    • A process and device for manufacturing cylindrical hollow bodies out of a blank through cold forming using roll cylinders is provided. The axes of the roll cylinders in this process are essentially adjusted parallel to the axis of the workpiece and execute, essentially radial to the workpiece, an oscillating, reciprocating movement. This reciprocating movement is executed in such a manner that in the upper oscillation stop the roll cylinders and the workpiece preferably just barely touch each other without the application of force, and in the lower oscillation stop preferably dip into the surface of the workpiece up to the desired infeed depth in order to achieve the demanded external diameter of the workpiece. With this process the very high static pressures required for press roll machines can be avoided, which results in small and light engine frames, and simultaneously makes it possible to machine workpieces with flanges directly up to the flanges.

    • A machine (20) for rolling power transmission formations in a workpiece includes a base (20) having a lower end (24) for providing support thereof in an upwardly standing orientation. The base (22) includes a pair of spaced base portions (30) and a rear connecting base portion (32). A pair of vertically movable slides (66) respectively mount a pair of forming racks (68) and are respectively mounted by the spaced base portions (30) on opposite sides of the rotational axis (A) about which the workpiece is rotatably supported such that the forming racks oppose each other and roll power transmission formations in the workpiece during vertical movement in opposite directions.

    • External teeth are formed on an annular metallic workpiece centered on a workpiece axis by fitting the annular metallic workpiece to a die with internally directed teeth to form axially open and radially closed spaces between the workpiece and the die at the teeth and axially pressing a pair of closing members oppositely against the die and workpiece to axially close the spaces. Then the fitted-together die, closing members, and workpiece are engaged between a pair of tools that are pressed together along a pressing axis generally parallel to the workpiece axis. The die, members and workpiece are synchronously rotated about the workpiece axis while the tools are rotated about respective tool axes each forming a small acute angle with the workpiece axis so as to locally compress the workpiece axially between the tools to deform the workpiece into the spaces. A bearing supports the die and workpiece while the workpiece is compressed between the tools.
