    • An apparatus for treating a liquid containing impurities may comprise: a filtering chamber for receiving liquid containing impurities, the filtering chamber containing granular media and configured to permit the granular media to interact with the liquid containing impurities, thereby removing impurities from the liquid to produce filtrate; a filtrate section in communication with the filtering chamber for receiving the filtrate, the filtrate section being in communication with a first outlet for outflow of the filtrate; a gas supplying system for delivering gas to the granular media in the filtering chamber for transport of a portion of the granular media to a granular media washer; and a reject section in communication with the granular media washer for receiving a reject mixture comprising liquid and impurities from the granular media washer. The reject section may be in communication with a second outlet for outflow of a portion of the reject mixture.

    • An underwater filtration system or operator which can be floated on and suspended in a river, lake, pond or other water body to filter water from the water body. The underwater filtration operator may be electrically charged with simultaneous introduction of continuous forced air to remove impurities from the water body and increase filtering efficiency and the system includes a split housing having a selected configuration and divided into one or more filtration units, each of which includes a filter medium or mediums for filtering water from the water body. A pump is provided in the interior of the system housing for receiving the filtered water from the filtration units and pumping the filtered water to a collection tank or dispenser, directly to an end user or to a reverse-osmosis water filtration unit for further filtration. This unique operator allows selected individual filtration compartments to be backwashed while other filtration compartments are producing filtered water without the necessity of an external clean water storage tank.

    • The invention relates to a filtering apparatus including, inside a filtering tower (1), a filtering section (r), a liquid collecting section (7) and a liquid feeding section (e). The liquid feeding section (e) includes a diffuser (A) attached to an upwardly oriented orifice (5a) formed at a leading end of a liquid feeding pipe (5). The object is to provide an apparatus which allows use of the existing filtering tower without its enlargement and which allows uniform falling of the filtering liquid over the substantially entire top surface of the filter medium layer, thus making it readily possible to maintain the flatness of the top surface of the filter medium layer even when light-weight medium is employed, thereby to allow the filter medium layer as well as the entire filtering apparatus to achieve their desired filtering performance. The diffuser (A) includes a damping portion (k) for damping the momentum of the liquid discharged from the orifice (5a), a first discharging portion (8) for upwardly discharging the liquid damped by the damping portion (k), a second discharging portion (9) for laterally discharging the liquid damped by the damping portion (k), and a third discharging portion (10) for downwardly discharging the liquid damped by the damping portion (k), said first, second and third discharging portions being stacked one on another from the top to the bottom in the mentioned order.

    • An apparatus for treating a fluid to remove at least part of a component or components from the fluid in a reciprocating flow ion exchange system. The apparatus includes a vessel having a central holding chamber that is enclosed at each end by an end cap. A packed bed of ion exchange particles is held within the central holding chamber through the use of upper and lower retaining means so that a particle free cavity is created above and below the particle bed. The flow of fluid is distributed substantially evenly across the end of the particle bed by the pressure drop through the bed when one of the particle free cavities is filled with pressurized fluid.
