摘要： There is provided a plastic collar integral with the outer jacket of a cable. The plastic material includes a mixture of a plastic and an electrically conductive material such as carbon black. The plastic is melt bonded to the cable jacket by applying electric current through the material, thus melting the material onto the jacket of the cable. Upon melting, the semi-conductive plastic may be molded into the desired form, and upon cooling, it becomes bonded to the cable jacket. The collar may be used as a seal for the ends of a cable splice closure as well as a shoulder for securing a sealing gasket to a cable for use in such closures. The collar also may be used as strain-relief for the conductors which are inside the cable as well as other uses.

The kit comprises a portable container sealingly enclosing abrasive material for abrading the damaged cable portion; a cleaning compound; a filler compound for restoring or filling in the damaged region of the cable jacket; a bonding agent for bonding a patch of insulative, flexible material circumferentially about the section of the cable wherein the damaged portion is located; the insulative patch material; and a flame-resistant tape for aiding the bonding agent in joining the patch to the cable, as well as providing the patch with a smooth and continuous surface at a junction between side edges thereof and the cable surface.

摘要： Apparatus for repairing insulation of an insulated conductor comprising a split yoke; an elongate, substantially cylindrical cavity formed in the mating surfaces of the yoke; an elongate, split, substantially cylindrical conductor mold or insert removably positioned in the cavity; an injection molding unit communicating with an opening in the conductor insert through an injection bore in the yoke to inject insulator into the conductor mold through such bore; a heating element within the yoke to melt the injected insulator over an area comprising the central area of the conductor mold; and a cooling element within the yoke to cool the ends of the conductor mold while the central area is heated, whereby the heat applied to the insulated conductor within the conductor mold does not extend to insulated conductor outside the yoke. In an optional embodiment, a tensioning device can be used to maintain the insulated conductor under tension during the repair. This apparatus allows the easy repair of insulation defects and imperfections, e.g., holes and bubbles, with the repaired insulated conductor, after surface finishing, having no greater dimensions than the original insulated conductor.

The first hollow tube may have an inner diameter which is greater than an outer diameter of the cable so that the first hollow tube can be slid over the cable, so that a portion of the cable resides in the inner chamber of the first hollow tube in a first state. The cable may have a length which is substantially greater than a length of the first hollow tube. The hand held device for blowing hot air may be configured to blow hot air on the outer peripheral surface of the first tube, in the first state, to cause the first tube to shrink and become attached to the cable to repair a defect in the cable.
