    • A breaker device is provided to prevent an insufficient engagement of electrodes. The device, according to the invention, is excellent in safety because of its construction in which a conductive path is located inside the casing 1 and is allowed to have a compact configuration of particularly low height because a handle 40 can be inclined to its resting position. When the handle 40 is inclined to the resting position while a movable electrode 31 is insufficiently engaged, engaging portions 77 come into contact with receiving portions 75 and a lever action works with the contact positions of the engaging portions 77 and the receiving portions 75 as a fulcrum. As a result, a rotating force applied to an operable portion 40A is translated into a downward acting engaging force applied to the movable electrode 31 via rotation center shafts 45 and a mount body 35. In other words, since the movable electrode 31 is brought into its properly engaged state by inclining the handle 40 to the resting position, the insufficient engagement of the movable electrode 31 can be prevented.

    • A combination disconnect/reversing switch for use in explosive environments for isolating an electrical power source from a three-phase motor or for reversing the operation of a motor. The disconnect/reversing switch comprises a handle, mounting plate, front insulator plate, mounting flange, front contact holder, moveable contact holder, rear contact holder, and rear contact retainer. The handle actuates the moveable contact holder between open circuit, or load-grounded, (or reverse in the case of a reversing switch) and closed (or forward) positions. The moveable contact holder contains three electrically conductive pin members which engage corresponding electrical contacts on either the front contact holder, corresponding to the open (or reverse in the case of a reversing switch) position, or rear contact holder, corresponding to the closed (or forward) position. The front and rear contact holders are maintained at a fixed distance from each other by three electrically conductive connector rods upon which is slideably mounted the moveable contact holder. Electrical connections are established between the pin members and the conductive connector rods by electrically conductive bus bars also located on the moveable contact holder.

    • An electrical termination for use with a high voltage underground cable system wherein a large degree of arcing may occur between two electrical structures as they are brought together under short circuit conditions to complete a live high voltage circuit. Gas generating material is included as part of at least one of the structures such that gas is produced by the arcing between the structures as they are moved towards each other to form the desired electrical connection. The pressure build up of the gas within the termination acts upon a movable gas actuated means to cause movement thereof when the structures are brought close together under fault conditions. When moved by such a pressure build up, a portion of the gas actuated means transfers the arcing to a position away from the gas generating material to cause the cessation of gas production and thus permits the structures to couple and complete the circuit.

    • The invention comprises a cylindrical housing having an internal telescopic split bore for receiving a solenoidally actuated piston. The piston has an extremity spring biased and anchored and the other extremity has disposed thereon a resistive contact. The split bore is conductively coated and separated by an insulative medium. The resistive contact on said piston is disposed to engage one of said conductive contacts in response to the excitation of the solenoid to permit conduction under the control of the resistive contact. Removal of the excitation permits the piston to return to its original position under the control of the spring bias. The amplitude of make and break of contact currents is controlled by the resistive element during the initial stages of switching.
