    • The plasma display panel driving method is a method of driving a panel provided with a plurality of discharge cells, each having a scan electrode and a sustain electrode, and includes forming one-field period by arranging a plurality of sub-fields including an initializing period, address period, and sustain period, wherein sustain pulse is either a first sustain pulse for generating emission having one peak at the discharge cell or a second sustain pulse for generating emission having two peaks at the discharge cell, and rise time of second sustain pulse applied to the scan electrode and rise time of second sustain pulse applied to the sustain electrode are individually set in accordance with ratios of discharge cells for emitting light in the sustain period of the sub-field.

    • The present invention provides a driving method suitable for a plasma display. The plasma display includes multiple scan electrodes, multiple sustain electrodes and multiple address electrodes, for example. Successive frames are adapted to be displayed in repeating reset periods, address periods and sustain periods by applying driving signals to the scan electrodes, sustain electrodes and address electrodes. The driving method is characterized in that before inputting driving signals or when interrupting driving signals, a wall-charge removing signal is applied to the scan electrodes to remove/reduce the residual wall charges around the scan electrodes and the sustain electrodes. As a result, the possibility of the plasma display generating erroneously discharging with strong light at the restarting state can be effectively reduced.

The plasma display apparatus comprises a plasma display panel comprising a first electrode and a second electrode, and an electrode driver alternatively applying a sustain pulse of a first polarity to the first electrode and the second electrode and applying a pulse of a second polarity opposite to a first polarity after a magnitude of a voltage of a sustain pulse of a first polarity is maximized. Therefore, it is possible to increase discharge efficiency without rising a driving voltage or increasing an electrode space by increasing an amount of space discharge.
