    • A seismic alarm system incorporating a plurality of motion sensors. The motion sensors included a housing in which a weight is supported for slidable movement along a single direction within the housing. The sensors are mounted to a horizontally disposed enclosure. The sensors are arranged so that the directions of travel of the weights within the enclosures are uniformly arranged so that vibration of sufficient magnitude in the horizontal plane will cause one or more of the weights to move. By adjusting the mass of the weights, the sensitivity of the sensors can be adjusted. When a seismic event of sufficient magnitude occurs, the weight becomes displaced from a central position within its housing and moves to one or the other end of the housing to activate the contacts. Activating the contacts completes a circuit so that one or more warnings, such as bells, lights, or spoken words, are produced.

    • A seismic detection system for detecting persons hidden in vehicles inclu a seismic transducer used as a sensing device and electronic processing circuitry for processing the output signals from the seismic transducer. The electronic circuitry detects output signals from the seismic transducer, and, by counting the number of times the signal crosses a preset threshold during a given time window, makes a logic choice between there being personnel or no personnel in the vehicle. If a person or persons are in the vehicle an output is produced and this output is used to actuate audio and/or visual indicators thereby indicating that a person or persons are in the vehicle.

    • An intrusion detection system for detecting and classifying intrusions into a protected area by recognizing their characteristic patterns of seismic disturbances. A sensor produces an electrical signal representative of seismic disturbances created by an intrusion. Signals that surpass a predetermined level constitute an event. These signals are introduced to a histogram circuit that operates to determine the time between these events and to transmit a pulse to a classifier indicating each such time. The classifier generates a plurality of analogue signals each of which individually represents by its amplitude the sum of the pulses falling within a particular time between events pattern. Each pattern is characteristic of a particular type of intrusion such as aircraft, ground vehicle, human, nuisance, etc.

    • Seismic vibrations sensed by a geophone in a protected area are converted to an electrical seismic signal that is applied to an envelope detector. The detected signal is coupled directly and through an integrator which inverts the polarity thereof to a summing network. The zero crossings of the seismic signal are detected to generate a train of pulses that are integrated to produce a signal having an amplitude that is related to the fundamental frequency of the seismic signal and of the opposite polarity with respect to the detected signal and which is applied to the summing network. The output of the summing network is applied to a threshold circuit which produces an alarm indicating intrusion of the protected area when the magnitude of the sum signal exceeds a prescribed threshold level.
