    • A boundary display device is used in a photographic printer performing so-called division-printing by which partial prints are produced from an image frame of a negative film to construct a composite greatly-enlarged print. The boundary display device comprises a transparent plate and lines which represent the boundaries of areas into which a scene of a film frame is nominally divided. The transparent plate is placed in an opening of a film carrier of the printer so as to view how the scene is divided prior to the division-printing. Based on the viewing, the position of the film in the opening is moved slightly if necessary.

    • A simple and inexpensive method and apparatus for making a label for use on architectural drawings or the like using a number of bars containing standardized or preselected information and a conventional photocopy machine. The apparatus includes one or more bars containing desired information and a base for holding the bars which can be placed on the photocopy machine. Labels are produced by placing the apparatus on the photocopy machine which has been loaded with the desired labeling material and then copying information onto the material. Typically the apparatus and method are used to produce adhesive-backed transparent labels containing drafting symbols or drawing notations.

    • A graphic forms overlay apparatus to be used with non-impact printers requiring the use of a movable light sensitive medium such as laser printers is disclosed. Laser printers use a sweeping laser beam and a movable light sensitive medium to image data from a data processing source for printing. A graphic forms pattern is overlayed on the data imaged on the light sensitive medium for simultaneous printing of the data and pattern. To accomplish this a negative of the pattern is mounted on a hollow rotatable forms drum, and inside the drum a fluorescent tube is fixedly mounted for illuminating the negative. A linear portion of the light image of the negative formed thereby is reflected by an optical system of lenses and mirrors onto adjacent linear portions of the light sensitive medium being swept by the laser beam for imaging of data. Synchronism between rotation of the forms drum and information being written on the movable light sensitive medium is provided by logic circuitry connected between the printer and a stepping motor which is coupled to the forms drum for rotation of the forms drum. A top of page signal from the printer cooperates with the logic circuitry to start synchronous rotation of the forms drum. An alignment signal from an alignment means within the overlay apparatus cooperates with the logic circuitry to stop rotation of the forms drum in an initial position ready for the next top of page signal. Adjustable counter circuitry provides a means for externally varying the rotational speed of the forms drum.

    • A system and method for generating and codifying cropping and enlargement information for a rectangular photograph utilizes at least one transparent overlay and a grid board for underlying the overlay. The overlay includes markings providing a plurality of rectangular windows arranged about a common center and identification indicia for identifying each window and the enlargement multiple necessary to enlarge the window to a predetermined photo size. The grid board has a flat surface bearing a pair of intersecting lines which divide the surface into four quadrants about the center of the board surface, and one quadrant of the board bears a pattern of markings which provides the one quadrant with a two-coordinate grid and indicia for identifying coordinate locations on the grid. To use the system, the transparent overlay is positioned over the board so that the common center of the windows overlies the center of the board and then the photo is manipulated between the overlay and the board surface until the preselected area of the photo desired to be enlarged is suitably framed by a chosen one of the rectangular windows. By noting the identification indicia corresponding to the chosen window and the location on the board grid overlain by a corner of the photo, one possesses sufficient information to accurately isolate the selected area of the photo at a later time for enlargement purposes.
