摘要： The invention pertains to a method of making a wood floor covering which is flexible and can be laid on concrete with a mastic using momentary pressure. Instead of the nominal 3/4-inch thickness of conventional strip hardwood floors, the floor covering is only about 1/10-inch thick. The finish on the floor covering is sufficiently wear-resistant so that for the life of the flooring the wood is never subject to wear. The finish is applied in the factory as a thermoplastic resin film which extends over the wood and spans the joints between the wood blocks of which the flooring is composed. In bonding the film a cushion is placed on the film, and heat is applied to the assembly sufficiently high to soften or melt the film. The blocks are kept from spreading apart by a constraining means partly embedded in the back of the wood by pressure, and the resin is chilled under pressure until it reaches room temperature and is solidified. In a preferred form of the flooring, the finish is the sole means for tying the blocks together, and the wood surface is rough.

A facing wood veneer formed from a second wood species of superior grade wood species as a three-dimensional solid rigid wood finishing layer permanently seamlessly attached via an adhesive to a first wood face of the wood core thereby the wood core having an appearance of the second wood species. In another embodiment, the facing wood veneer is formed from a third wood species, exotic hardwood species. A two-part emulsion polymer isocyanate adhesive is used to bond the wood core against the facing wood veneer; to bond two wood cores together. In another embodiment, the adhesive is a two-part polyurethane emulsion polymer.

An elongate plastic base having a top surface and a plurality of side walls forming a perimeter about the top surface is provided. An elongate contact surface material is secured to the elongate plastic base atop the plastic base, wherein the length and width of the elongate contact surface material exceeds the length and width of the elongate plastic base. After securing the elongate contact surface material to the elongate plastic base, the elongate contact surface material is cut such that the length and width of the elongate contact surface material approximates the length and width of the elongate plastic base. The elongate plastic base has a plurality of wings disposed about the sides of plastic base. The alignment wings are removed from the elongate plastic base after securing the elongate contact surface material to the elongate plastic base.
