    • A method of processing a piece of bar stock material having spaced ends and a predetermined diameter and including the steps of: attaching an adaptor to one end of the piece; directing the piece into a feeder sleeve bounding an internal passageway; moving the piece in the internal passageway from an upstream end toward a downstream end so as to expose a part of the piece for processing; performing at least one processing step on the exposed part of the piece; engaging a retrieval assembly with the adaptor; extending at least a part of the retrieval assembly into the internal passageway from a downstream end of the at least part of the retrieval assembly to a predetermined distance in an upstream direction; and with the retrieval assembly engaged with the adaptor, repositioning the retrieval assembly to thereby reposition the piece within the internal passageway.

    • A device for catching cut off workpieces from a C. N. C. lathe, the lathe having a toolholding turret and a turret back wall. The device attaches to the turret. A basket for catching cut off workpieces is attached to a bracket. The bracket is shaped to be attachable to the turret, to permit the basket to fit underneath the workpiece and to permit the basket to clear the turret back wall when the turret is rotated about its axis into any position. Preferably, an L-shaped bracket is used for octagon type turrets and an oblique angled bracket is used for VDI turrets. One version of the invention comprises a lathe to which a C. N. C. parts catcher is attached. Another version of the invention is a method for catching workpieces cut off from the spindle of a C. N. C. lathe.

    • A loading device for sequential loading of bars in machine tools comprises chutes (16) for arrival of a bar against stops (17) for stopping in a withdrawal position. Beyond the stops (17) there is a guide (20,20') for axial sliding of a bar in a direction aligned with the inlet of a machine tool (14). Raising elements (22) have their upper surface (23) inclined and terminating with a stop part (24) arranged substantially vertically to the guide (20,20'). Said raising elements (22) are mobile between a first position below the chutes (16) and the guides (20,20') and a second position above the stops (17) and the guides (20,20') in which they raise the bar placed in the withdrawal position to cause sliding onto the upper inclined surface (23) toward the guide ( 20,20') to a stop position (26). Upon return of the raising elements to the first position the bar in the stop position (26) is placed on the underlying guides (20,20') to be pushed by (pushers) (37,38) into the machine tool.

The loading/unloading beam is capable of successively or simultaneously moving at least in a vertical Z axis direction and a horizontal Y axis direction.

    • A workpiece ejector and a method for ejecting workpieces from a turning machine such as a lathe. The turning machine has at least one spindle for receiving workpieces therethrough and at least one chuck associated with the spindle for holding a workpiece during machining operations. In one embodiment, the ejector includes a piston mounted at a location outside the spindle and proximate the chuck, the piston having a first end adapted to engage the workpiece and being movable between a first position where the first end is located outside the spindle and a second position where the first end and at least a portion of the piston are within the spindle. An actuator is operative to move the piston from the first position toward the second position. The actuator may include a mechanical spring.

    • A workpiece ejector and a method for ejecting workpieces from a turning machine such as a lathe.
