摘要： A process produces 1,4-butanediol by purifying 1,4-butanediol originated from a fermentation broth, by which process 1,4-butanediol having properties suited as a material of producing a polyester is obtained, which 1,4-butanediol enables to reduce by-production of tetrahydrofuran during the esterification reaction and to reduce the delay in polymerization. The process of producing 1,4-butanediol includes adding an alkaline substance other than an ammonia or an amine to an aqueous 1,4-butanediol-containing solution originated from a fermentation broth; distilling the resulting mixture; and recovering a 1,4-butanediol-containing solution from the vapor flow.

摘要： A process for converting a tertiary halogenated hydrocarbons in a tertiary halogenated hydrocarbon-containing stream to a corresponding unhalogenated or less-halogenated unsaturated hydrocarbon product with the release of hydrogen halide involves contacting the tertiary halogenated hydrocarbon with a sorbent-type dehydrohalogenation catalyst in a reaction zone and optionally passing a stripping gas through the reaction zone to remove vapor phase reaction products from the reaction zone. A process for removing a tertiary chlorinated hydrocarbon impurity from 1,3-dichloro-1-propene involves contacting a mixture containing the 1,3-dichloro-1-propene and the tertiary chlorinated hydrocarbon impurity with a dehydrochlorination catalyst effective to catalyze a conversion of the tertiary chlorinated hydrocarbon impurity to a corresponding unchlorinated or less-chlorinated unsaturated hydrocarbon and hydrogen chloride and distilling the 1,3-dichloro-1-propene to produce a purified cis-1,3-dichloro-1-propene fraction and a purified trans-1,3-dichloro-1-propene fraction.

摘要： A new purification technique for alkylene oxides is described. The technique is safer than previously reported methods and does not require cooling of the purification vessel. In a solution of a high-boiling point solvent and butyllithium, an alkylene oxide is added and allowed to react at ambient temperature. The impurities readily react with the butyllithium while the alkylene oxide does not. The low-boiling alkylene oxide is then easily distilled out of the high-boiling point solvent as a pure material ready for use in controlled polymerization reactions.

The method comprises: (a) vaporizing the crude liquid, to yield (i) a first vapor stream comprising the gas and (ii) a first liquid stream comprising the gas; (b) removing water vapor, particulates, or both from the first vapor stream, to yield a second vapor stream comprising the gas; (c) condensing the second vapor stream, to yield a second liquid stream comprising the gas; and (d) sparging the second liquid stream with an inert gas, to yield (i) a third vapor stream comprising the gas and (ii) a third liquid stream comprising the highly purified gas. Also disclosed is a method for preparing an adsorbent to effectively remove water vapor from the gas, as well as an adsorbent so prepared.
