    • A metal gasket for sealing multiple cylinder bores includes one or more metal substrates, main sealing beads around each of the cylinder bores, and one or more sub-beads. The main sealing beads include meandering portions located in a sealing portion between the cylinder bores, and the sub-bead is provided between the meandering portions. By placing the sub-bead between the main bead meandering portions, the base portion of the meandering portion and the base portion of the sub-bead squeeze each other. As a result, the lower portion of the meandering portion can be prevented from slipping, and the surface pressure can be partially reinforced. The metal gasket provides an excellent seal in a location where surface pressure is often partially reduced.

    • A metal laminate gasket of the invention is installed in an internal combustion engine having at least one hole therein. The gasket includes a first metal plate with a base section, and a second metal plate situated above the base section of the first metal plate. The first plate includes a first hole to be sealed, and a flange situated above the base portion around the first hole to form a solid portion. The second plate has a second hole, and an inclined portion around the second hole. The diameter of the second hole is substantially the same as the diameter of the outer edge of the flange. When the first and second plates are assembled, the flange is located inside the second hole. When the gasket is tightened, the flange non-resiliently seals around the hole, and the inclined portion resiliently seals outside the flange.

    • A metal gasket of the invention is used for a cylinder head gasket or a pipe connecting gasket. The gasket is basically formed of a single metal plate having a base portion extending substantially throughout an entire area to be sealed, and includes a bead protecting portion extending outwardly from the front surface and a sealing bead adjacent to the bead protecting portion. The bead protecting portion and the sealing bead are formed in the metal plate. The bead protecting portion has no substantial compressibility, but the sealing bead has a compressibility. Thus, when the metal plate is compressed, the bead protecting portion provides a surface pressure without substantial resiliency, and the sealing bead provides a surface pressure with resiliency and is protected from being completely compressed by the bead protecting portion. The gasket can be made thin.
