摘要： A method of making mechanically-lined pipe with primary expansion by plastically expanding a liner sleeve within an outer pipe, under lining pressure applied internally to the liner sleeve. On relieving the lining pressure, elastic radial contraction of the outer pipe makes a mechanical bond between the outer pipe and the liner sleeve. Then, secondary expansion of the outer pipe is performed under fixing pressure, which may be greater than the lining pressure, applied internally to the liner sleeve at an end portion of the pipe. This makes or strengthens a mechanical bond at the end portion. The resulting pipe joint has an end portion and a body portion inboard of the end portion. The body portion has a first, lesser bonding pressure between the outer pipe and the liner sleeve. The end portion has a second, greater bonding pressure between the outer pipe and liner sleeve.

摘要： A method of sealing an annulus between inner and outer pipe sections of a pipe-in-pipe system includes positioning a sealing mass in the annulus in contact with the inner and outer pipe sections. Deforming the sealing mass occurs, for example by shearing and compression, by effecting relative longitudinal movement between the inner and outer pipe sections. Fixing the inner and outer pipe sections against reverse relative longitudinal movement to maintain deformation of the sealing mass is then performed. The inner pipe section and a displaced outer pipe section may be fixed by welding them to respective pipes of an adjoining pipe-in-pipe structure. Opposed ramp surfaces, each being similarly inclined relative to the longitudinal direction, extend into the annulus from respective ones of the pipe sections such that the sealing mass may be compressed between the ramp surfaces.

摘要： A rigid pipe-in-pipe structure for subsea transportation of fluids includes inner and outer pipes defining a thermally-isolating annulus between them. Thermal insulation material is disposed in the annulus. The outer pipe is of metal, preferably carbon steel. The inner pipe is a polymeric composite structure of bonded layers including a first, radially outer tubular polymeric electrically insulating layer, which can be of pure polymer, surrounding a second, composite layer including carbon fibers, preferably continuous fibers, embedded in a polymer matrix. Conveniently the second layer is a heating layer in which the carbon fibers conduct electricity to heat the inner pipe. The inner pipe can also comprise a radially inner tubular polymer layer within the second composite layer.

An umbilical is arranged to supply lift gas to the lift gas injection port. A heating unit is positioned to act on a downstream end region of the umbilical adjacent to the lift gas injection port. A method of providing lift gas to a subsea riser system includes the steps of conveying lift gas toward a production riser and, before injecting the lift gas into the production riser, heating the lift gas locally adjacent to the production riser.

摘要： A method of transporting a rigid tie-in connection across a body of water for installation underwater is disclosed. The method includes the step of supporting the tie-in connection in the water by buoyancy acting on a frame that supports the tie-in connection until installation. The buoyancy-supported frame is lowered and the tie-in connection into a sub-surface transit configuration. The method further includes in the transit configuration, towing the buoyancy-supported frame and the tie-in connection behind a towing vessel toward an installation site. Also disclosed is a system for implementing the method. The system includes a towable frame arranged to support the tie-in connection until installation and an external buoyancy attached to the frame by an extensible suspension link arranged to suspend the frame from the buoyancy in water in use. The link is extensible to lower the frame from a raised surface-tow configuration into a lowered sub-surface transit configuration.

Where the coating and the edge finisher are of thermoplastics such as PP, fusing can be achieved by injection molding the edge finisher or by welding a discrete edge finisher component to the edge of the coating. Mirror welding may be employed for this purpose, with a hot plate being interposed between the edge of the coating and the edge finisher.

In one example there are three such pipelines extending from the seabed toward the surface and having an upper end supported at a depth below the sea surface. In another embodiment, three pipelines are arranged around a structural core. In each case, the first of the pipelines can be a fluid injection line, and the other pipelines are production lines. Also disclosed is a riser having buoyancy along at least a part of its length. The buoyancy results in the riser having a generally circular cross-section, the circumference of which is non-contiguous. Methods of installing such risers are also described.

摘要： A method and apparatus for bending a pipe to mitigate internal wrinkling, with particular benefit when bending a lined pipe upon spooling. Bending is performed continuously by advancing the pipe through a bending zone while an internal mandrel is held at the bending zone to resist wrinkling. In one variant, the mandrel comprises longitudinally-spaced pipe-engaging elements and a tensile link between the elements allows relative movement between the elements. A holdback connection on one of the elements applies hold-back force to that element to be transmitted to the other element via the tensile link. In another variant, the mandrel comprises an elongate pipe-engaging body with a hold-back connection at one end of the body. The body is flexible to bend with the pipe and is shaped to engage an inner surface of the pipe along most of the length of the body.
