    • The present invention discloses a cryogenic receiving amplifier using a gallium nitride high electron mobility transistor (GaN HEMT) as an amplifying device in a cryogenic temperature environment. The cryogenic receiving amplifier includes an input matching circuit which makes an impedance matching between a gate of the amplifying device and an outside of an input terminal, a gate biasing circuit which applies a DC voltage to the gate of the amplifying device, an output matching circuit which makes an impedance matching between a drain of the amplifying device and an outside of an output terminal, and a drain biasing circuit which applies a DC voltage to the drain of the amplifying device. The cooled temperature is preferably set to 150 K or below, and the GaN HEMT may be illuminated with light of a blue LED.

    • A predistorter compensates, with high accuracy, for a distortion in each frequency band by a power amplifier that amplifies a transmission signal containing multiple frequency bands whose center frequencies are widely spaced apart. Signals of the respective frequency bands are extracted by multiple band signal extractors from the input signal containing transmission signals of multiple frequency bands; differences between the extracted signals and the output signal from the power amplifier are detected by multiple difference detectors in the respective bands; the detected difference signals are used as reference signals to read out compensation data from look-up tables for the respective frequency bands; the compensation data is added by multiple adders to the extracted transmission signals of the respective frequency bands; and the added outputs are combined by a combiner to provide the output signal from the predistorter.

    • A transmission signal containing signals of a plurality of frequency bands is divided and fed to a linear signal transfer path including a delay circuit and a plurality of distortion generation paths for the plurality of frequency bands. In each distortion generation path, the signal of the corresponding frequency band is extracted by a band signal extractor from the signal fed to the path, an odd-order distortion of the extracted signal is generated by an odd-order distortion generator, and the phase and amplitude of the odd-order distortion are adjusted by a vector adjuster to provide the output signal of the distortion generation path. The output signals from such plurality of distortion generation paths are combined by a combiner with the output from the linear signal transfer path to provide the combined output as the output from a multi-band predistorter using power series representation.

The feed forward amplifier of the present invention comprises a distortion detection circuit and a distortion elimination circuit and has n first vector adjusters 4 which have different operating frequency bands and are inserted in a first vector adjustment path 14 of the distortion detection circuit; and n second vector adjusters 11 which have frequency bands corresponding to those of first vector adjusters 4 and are inserted in a second vector adjustment path 8 of the distortion elimination circuit. By means of a first switching means 3 selecting one first vector adjuster 4 and a second switching means 10 selecting a second vector adjuster 11, the frequency band for which distortion component is compensated in the feed forward amplifier is controlled by switching.

    • In a distortion generation path of a power series predistorter, a frequency characteristic compensator that adjusts the frequency characteristic of a distortion component is provided in series with an odd-order distortion generator. The output of a power amplifier is divided to obtain an output signal of the power amplifier, the output signal of the power amplifier is down-converted by a down converter, and a distortion detector detects a distortion component in the down-converted signal of base band.
