    • A connector that enables fiber optic cables to terminate at equipment in cabinets having little space available for cable routing, without over bending. The construction includes a connector housing, and a yoke including a collar joined to a rear end of the housing. A tubular cable bend limiter is fixed at one end to the collar and the limiter directs a cable containing one or more bend insensitive fibers through a bend of, e.g., 90 degrees, between the collar and the opposite end of the limiter with a fiber bend radius of less than one inch (25.4 mm). If the limiter creates a fiber bend radius of 0.300 inch (7.62 mm), the distance between the front of the connector and the cable after bending may be as little as 1.26 inches (32 mm), allowing the cable and connector to be routed and terminated in limited space without impairing performance.

    • A high density panel mounting assembly has a first connector housing having first and second arrays of channels for receiving modified connectors, separated by a shelf. An adapter assembly for receiving the ferrules of the connectors has an interior wall having first and second arrays of bored projections forming sleeves for receiving the connector ferrules. The adapter assembly has a second connector housing substantially identical with the first connector housing mounted to or integral with the rear of the adapter housing for receiving individual connectors. Each of the connector housings has an array of apertures along the top and bottom surfaces for latching the connectors in place. Each of the connectors has a resilient latching arm having a distal end having a latching surface thereon which bears against the end of its corresponding aperture to latch the connector in place within the connector housing. The first and second connector housings each receives the connectors in an aperture, the width of which is substantially equal to the sum of the widths o the connectors so that the connectors, when in place, bear against each other to prevent lateral displacement thereof.

    • A tunable adapter for joining optical fiber connectors with other elements has a housing in which are contained a fixed disc member having a connector receiving jack mounted thereon, the axis of which is surrounded by an array of indexing member. The housing further contains a movable wall member having a connector jack extending therefrom, the axis of which is surrounded by an array of indexing members adapted to mate with the indexing members on the fixed disc member. The movable wall is biased toward the disc member by means of a spring member so that, in normal operation, the indexing members are mated. When the movable wall is pulled out of engagement, it is rotatable so that the adapter may be tuned by an approximate alignment of the eccentricity vectors of the two connectors.
