    • A communications system receives a modulated signal that carries encoded communications data. An adaptive filter circuit has a plurality of adaptive filters each having a plurality of non-adaptive and adaptive filter taps with weighted coefficients. At a selected adaptive filter, an interference reduction circuit is responsive to one of at least a received state of a demodulator, the type of modulation used by communication system and the input and output power of adaptive filter for updating the adaptive gain of the adaptive filter, selecting the number and order of adaptive filter taps, separating the spacing of multipath introduced by adaptive filter, controlling input and output normalizing circuits to adaptive filter(s) and selecting if signal passed to demodulator is original received signal or signal output by adaptive filter. A demodulator and decoder receive the filtered output signal and demodulate and decode the signal to obtain the communications data.

    • A wireless communications device may be configured to perform a first demodulation based upon a first sampling rate of a received signal to generate a first demodulated signal and determine therefrom whether a first error value is not greater than a first threshold, and, if so then decode the first demodulated signal. If the first error value is greater than the first threshold, a second demodulation is performed based upon a second sampling rate of the received signal greater than or equal to the first sampling rate to generate a second demodulated signal and determine therefrom whether a second error value is not greater than a second threshold, and, if so, then decode the second demodulated signal. If the second error value is greater than the second threshold, the second demodulation is performed at least one additional time with at least one change thereto.

    • A communications system includes a first communications device cooperating with a second communications device. The first communications device multiplexes a digital speech message and a corresponding text message into a multiplexed signal, and wirelessly transmits the multiplexed signal. The second communications device wirelessly receives the multiplexed signal, de-multiplexes the multiplexed signal digital into the speech message and the corresponding text message, decodes the speech message for an audio output transducer, and operates a text processor on the corresponding text message for display. The corresponding text message is displayed in synchronization with the speech message output by the audio output transducer. A memory is coupled to the text processor for storing the text message, and the text processor is configured to display the stored text message.
