    • A display device has a first color display panel having multi-color pixels formed of two groups of electrodes corresponding to signal electrodes and scanning electrodes. A second display panel has single-color pixels formed of two groups of electrodes corresponding to signal electrodes and scanning electrodes. The number of the signal electrodes of the second display panel are fewer in number than the signal electrodes of the first color display panel. A driver integrated circuit outputs driving signals shared commonly by and supplied to the signal and scanning electrodes of the first and second display panels. The driving signals output from the driver integrated circuit are supplied to the signal electrodes of the second display panel in only one color from among the colors of the multi-color pixels of the first display panel.

    • With a double-sided display module having a main panel and a sub-panel sharing drive signals, the image quality of the main panel is improved. When the display devices uses the same driver IC to drive the main panel and the sub-panel, the contrast is uneven at the border area between a region of the main panel where signal electrodes share drive signals with the sub-panel and a region of the main panel where signals electrodes do not share drive signals. In order to make the contrast unevenness practically invisible to the naked eye, an unshared electrode adjacent to the border between different contrast levels on the main panel is connected to the dummy electrode. The dummy electrode has to be smaller than the total overlap area of one electrode that constitutes a pixel of the sub-panel. In the case where the sub-panel has more than one dummy electrode, the dummy electrodes are gradually made smaller.

    • A fingerprint reading system is provided, which is capable of enhancing versatility when actually used, increasing productivity and reducing costs. An illumination device emits the light from a rear surface side of an active matrix liquid crystal cell. A light guiding plate provided on a surface side of the active matrix liquid crystal cell, transmits the light coming from the rear surface side and deflects the light coming from the surface side toward one side end surface. A light receiving device provided on the side of one side surface of the light guiding plate receives the light exiting from this one side surface. A drive circuit makes the active matrix liquid crystal cell pinpoint-irradiate a fingerprint in contact with the light guiding plate by pinpointing with the light emitted from the illumination device and makes the light receiving device pinpoint-receive the light reflected by the fingerpoint, thereby obtaining an image of the fingerprint.

    • Provided is a display device including a transparent board which forms a cover plate or the like on a display panel. In a case where an anti-reflection film is formed on a surface of the transparent board on a display viewing side thereof, a fingerprint, an oil film, and the like are liable to adhere thereto, and the soil due to the fingerprint and the oil film is noticeable on a surface of the anti-reflection film. Under the circumstances, on the surface of the transparent board on the display viewing side thereof, the anti-reflection film is formed, and a silicon oxide film for anti-soiling is formed on the anti-reflection film. With this structure, the fingerprint and the oil film are unlikely to adhere to the surface of the anti-reflection film, and are not noticeable even when adhering thereto.
