    • A portable computer can be selectively configured with a first hard disk or a second hard disk. The portable computer includes a controller, an interface connector, and a second interface adapter. The controller includes a first interface controlling unit and a second interface controlling, for respectively controlling the first hard disk and the second hard disk. The interface connector, electrically coupled with the first interface controlling unit and the second interface controlling unit, can be selectively electrically coupled with the first hard disk or the second hard disk. Parts of the ground pins and the floating pins of the interface connector are provided for transmitting signals to the second hard disk. Parts of the ground pins and the power pins are commonly used by the first and the second hard disks.

    • A portable computer system includes a portable computer and an integrated device both having wireless data transmission interface. The integrated device is connected to various peripheral devices with different interfaces and controlled by corresponding external port signals. When the portable computer wants to access the peripheral devices, a signal processor integrates and encodes all the external port signals to generate a single encoded signal to be fed to the integrated devices via the wireless transmission interface. After the integrated device receives the encoded signal, a signal processor decodes it to reproduce individual external port signals to be transferred to each corresponding peripheral device to control the operation thereof. During the encoding process, the signal processor may set the priorities according to the properties of each signal and add the identification information of the portable computer. Then, the signal processor integrates the priorities, identification information and all external port signals and produces the encoded signal. Since the encoded signal includes the user information, different users may simultaneously access the peripherals to achieve the object of peripheral-sharing.

    • A volume control method. An audio device. A portable communication system. First, an audio signal is input. At least one environmental noise is detected. An output gain is then determined based on the environmental noise, and the audio signal is amplified based thereon. The environmental noise comprises noises from various directions and various positions, and the output gain is proportional to the amplitude of the environmental noise. A custom gain is further received, and a sound pressure level (SPL) of the environmental noise is calculated. Therefore the output gain can be determined by summing the sound pressure level and the custom gain.
