    • A scanning optical device that includes a light source that emits a light flux; a polygon mirror for deflecting the light flux; a scanning lens for converging the light flux deflected by the polygon mirror to form a beam spot on an image surface; a dynamic prism that is rotatably disposed between the light source and the polygon mirror to affect the direction of the light flux; a driving mechanism for rotating the dynamic prism to change the deviation angle of the dynamic prism; and a controller for controlling the driving mechanism to change the position of the beam spot during scanning. In particular, the controller rotates the dynamic prism to compensate for errors that affect the position of the beam spot on the image surface, such as errors that vary with time and errors that occur randomly during the scanning process.

    • There is provided a method of processing an optical fiber having a core and a clad. The optical fiber has a first facet and a second facet. The method includes fixing the optical fiber in a state in which at least a portion thereof is bent in a predetermined curvature radius, applying a resist to a region on the first facet at least including an entirety of the core, irradiating the second facet with light of a predetermined wavelength so that only the resist applied to the core in the first facet is exposed to the light through an inside of the optical fiber, developing the resist, and forming a level gap at a boundary between the core and the clad in the first facet utilizing the resist remaining after the irradiating and the developing.

    • Disclosed is a scanning apparatus having a cascade scanning optical system. The scanning apparatus includes: a first scanning optical system for deflecting a first scanning laser beam to scan a scanning surface; a second scanning optical system for deflecting a second scanning laser beam to scan the scanning surface, wherein each of the first and second scanning optical systems is a telecentric system; a beam splitter positioned such that a first portion of the first scanning laser beam which has been reflected by the beam splitter and a first portion of the second scanning laser beam which has passed through the beam splitter proceed to the scanning surface on a common line thereon extending in a main scanning direction in respective different adjacent ranges of the common line to generate a single scanning line on the scanning surface by a combination of the first portion of the first scanning laser beam and the first portion of the second scanning laser beam; and a first laser beam detector fixed at a position to detect a second portion of the first scanning laser beam which has passed through the beam splitter and a second portion of the second scanning laser beam which has been reflected by the beam splitter when the first and second laser beams start scanning the respective different adjacent rang of the common line.
