    • A solid-state imaging device comprises a number of photodiodes arrayed in horizontal rows and vertical columns, a first output circuit for sequentially reading out signal charges from those photodiodes which are arrayed on odd-numbered horizontal rows, a second output circuit for sequentially reading out signal charges from the photodiodes arrayed on the even-numbered horizontal rows, a synchronizing pulse generator for synchronizing operation of the first and second output circuits, a first subtracting circuit for determining the difference between the output signals of the first and second output circuits in odd-numbered field, and a second subtracting circuit for determining the difference between the output signals of the first and second output circuits in even-numbered field. The outputs of the first and second subtracting circuit are alternately extracted in synchronism with the synchronizing pulse produced by the synchronizing pulse generator. The solid-state imaging device is made immune to the smear phenomenon. The invention can be advantageously applied to the solid-state imaging device of CCD type as well as MOS type.

    • A light guide plate is for reflecting incident light from an end surface thereof in an inside to obtain surface emission from a front surface thereof. The light guide plate includes protrusions and recesses formed on one of the front surface and a rear surface on an opposite side of the front surface. The protrusions and recesses are formed of a shape in which first mountain-range shapes each including a first ridge continuing along a first direction, which is a direction toward the inside from the end surface, and second mountain-range shapes each including a second ridge continuing along a second direction intersecting with the first direction are combined. Each first mountain-range shape includes a pair of first side surfaces on both sides of the first ridge. Each second mountain-range shape includes a pair of second side surfaces on both sides of the second ridge.

    • A display device includes a first substrate; a second substrate; a plurality of pixels; a shutter mechanism section formed in correspondence with each of the pixels, a fluid sealed in an space between the first substrate and the second substrate; and an impact absorption section located to face one substrate among the first substrate and the second substrate, on the side opposite to the side on which the fluid is located.
