    • In accordance with embodiments disclosed herein, there are provided methods, systems, mechanisms, techniques, and apparatuses for diagnosing and optimizing vectored DSL lines. For example, in one embodiment, such a system includes an interface to a first subset of a plurality of digital communication lines allocated to a vectored group and to a second subset of the plurality of digital communication lines which operate external to the vectored group; a Dynamic Spectral Management server (DSM server) to analyze the vectored group by performing the following operations for each of the plurality of digital communication lines in the vectored group: measuring a mitigated noise level for the digital communication line with crosstalk cancellation active, measuring a non-mitigated noise level for the digital communication line with crosstalk cancellation inactive, and comparing the mitigated noise level measured on the digital communication line with the non-mitigated noise level measured on the digital communication line.     • In accordance with embodiments disclosed herein, there are provided apparatus, systems and methods for DSM energy management. For example, in one embodiment such means include: means for adjusting transmit power on a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL line) to optimize energy consumption for the DSL line; and means for changing profile settings for the DSL line responsive to adjusting the transmit power on the DSL line until performance of the DSL line at least meets a threshold performance. For example, the means for adjusting the transmit power may involve reducing the transmit power on the DSL line to reduce total transmission energy consumption of the DSL line in accordance with one embodiment. In other embodiments, transmit power is adjusted upwards, a transmit spectra is adjusted, or effectiveness of such adjustments are measured.

    • The invention is a tool that accurately predicts the performance of each different priority or service level on a PON with multiple different service types and multiple users. Delays and bit rates are computed accounting for all packet, protocol, propagation, and scheduling overhead. The performance and delays of all services are further verified by running a real-time simulation that identically mimics the operation of an actual PON, resulting in very close prediction of the performances of different services before the services are actually used or tested for use by the subscribers. The invention allows the service provider to sell the maximum number of services possible, while still ensuring that they can all function acceptably. The tool may be used to model and predict behavior of various PON.

    • An automatic system for the provisioning, deployment and management of digital subscriber lines (DSL) in a telephone network uses data on loop composition, electromagnetic interference and crosstalk between lines to optimize the performance and correct problems with one or more symmetric and or asymmetric digital subscriber lines in a cable. The system optimizes DSL lines on an individual basis using measurements and data. The optimal transmit power spectral density (PSD) for each DSL can be found in an iterative manner. Starting each DSL with some predetermined starting parameter, the transmit PSD of each DSL is optimized in round-robin fashion. The crosstalk into a given DSL is calculated as the power sum of all transmissions passed through their measured crosstalk couplings. An asymmetric DSL has its transmit PSD optimized by using the “waterfilling” technique. A symmetric or single carrier DSL has its transmit PSD optimized simply as being the PSD corresponding to the maximum bit rate that it can reliably transmit. The joint optimization algorithm converges rapidly to unique values after only a few iterations. Each DSL may also be analyzed by the DSL management system to correct for crosstalk disturbers and electromagnetic interference (EMI) on an individual basis.
